It still only puts them at 8 and they may not get much higher than that.

There are more guaranteed spots in the next few weeks.

If Alabama wins out, there will be 2 spots open up. If Alabama loses, then 1 spot opens.

But yes, beyond that some help might be needed. That's what happens when you lose a game, you are at the mercy of other teams. But it's possible, I never in a million years thought Alabama could get back into things in 2011. Teams are always losing games they shouldn't. Who would have ever thought OkSt would lose to Iowa St?

There will be at least one SEC team in the playoffs.
The Big 12 champ will end the regular season ranked above ND.
The Big 10 champ will end the regular season ranked above ND.
If FSU and Oregon win out, they will end the regular season ranked above ND.
ND's only hope is either FSU or Oregon loosing.

I don't think the big champ ends up above Notre dame especially if it's not Michigan state. If it's Wisconsin or Nebraska, both teams would only have 1 good win which would be over Michigan state in the title game. Notre dame is almost guaranteed to pass Michigan state as long as they win because I have to think a road win vs #9 would mean more in the eyes of the committee than a home win vs #14. The rest of state schedule is trash so if Notre dame win and pass them, it will stay that way if both teams keep winning until maybe the big 10 title game.

I think you're assuming too much. If all of the big 12 teams finish with 2 losses, is the champ really finishing ahead of a 11-1 Notre dame team? Kansas state have road games in tcu, wvu, & Baylor. They should lose at least one of those games. TCU last tough game is this week so we should root for kstate because state still has 2 more extremely tough road games. Baylor probably loses to Oklahoma this week

I agree about the sec team making the playoffs & about Oregon/fsu but disagree with you big time on the big 10 & big 12

How much higher are you expecting? I actually think it would put us at 7 but remember bama still plays 2 of the teams in the top 3, Oregon still has road games in utah & Corvallis before the pac 12 title game probably against asu, zona, or ucla. The only team imo that is a lock to stay ahead of us is probably fsu. All the other teams have games they can lose or our big win on Saturday can jump us ahead of them

The playoff teams are not decided by a poll. They are decided by a committee. This committee is made up of individuals who for the most part are affiliated with conferences. The committee members meet in person and discuss the rankings. I think most of the committee members will feel that winning a conference championship is huge. ND will face an uphill battle get past or stay ahead of conference leaders or champions.

That is my point that the only reason Notre Dame would move up is the SEC beating up on one another. After that only one team ahead of them will lose because TCU and KSU play one another. Also Auburn might not drop lower than Notre Dame if they lose to Alabama with wins against LSU, Ole Miss, and Georgia. So I'm not counting on that one. Beating ASU moves NOtre Dame to 9, and KSU or TCU losing moves Notre Dame to 8. After that they could be stuck if Oregon and Michigan State win out. A one loss Mississippi State doesn't drop bellow Notre Dame so even if they lose to Alabama they will remain ahead of Notre Dame.

I think they also look at who you played/beaten. Does a big 12, sec, & pac 12 champ with the same amount of losses as ND get in ahead of us ? Yeah probably but I'm not sure MSU gets in ahead of us. I find it hard to believe any conference champ with more losses than Notre dame gets the nod above a 11-1 Notre dame except maybe the sec champion winner. I don't see a 2 loss Oregon, tcu/kstate, or Michigan state making it ahead of a 11-1 Notre dame.

If the committee only wanted conference champs that should be their criteria to make everyone life easier. Just say you'll choose the top 4 conference champs from the power 5 conferences

I agree the B10 won't get in especially if its OSU. No way OSU jumps us. IF ND wins out we would have wins over Stanford, ASU, Louisville and USC. MSU should not be ahead of us. We will find out soon.

I we just need to worry about us I guess. Win this week and ND jumps at least 3 spots to #7.

Well I'm assuming that TCU isn't going to lose again, or Michigan State or Oregon at least not until the Pac12 title game. If that happens or two teams in the SEC have one loss then Notre Dame aren't getting in if any one of those teams remains with one loss.

you all just need to focus on ND winning and forget about everyone else losing... enjoy the victories, if we get in, we get in, if not we'll have a great bowl game
