No he has not been traded yet, I expect that to go down to the wire personally. But this was interesting:
The Post has learned Nieuwendyk told Rangers GM Glen Sather on Tuesday that it would cost the Blueshirts three young studs off the roster, believed to be Marc Staal(notes), Brandon Dubinsky(notes) and Derek Stepan(notes), for the privilege of renting Brad Richards.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHA, please NYR, do that. For a rental.

Sather would be the only GM to pull the trigger on that monstrosity...

If that's what Dallas is asking for, he's not getting traded. There are few teams in contention that would trade that much for a rental with a small chance of resigning.

Why would any GM make a trade that big for a big ?. Nobody knows when Richards is going to be back in the lineup. Trading for him is a risk right now.

Exactly. The team basically said he won't be back before the deadline. Not a lot of GMs will give up a ton for a concussed player who's gonna be a UFA at seasons end.

Isn't that how negotiations work? Ask for the moon and then argue and squable until you get something that you were really after?

True. But that deal is the universe. I agree with some other comments though, that the Stars aren't gonna take on a lot of salary right now. One roster, one stud prospect/borderline NHLer, high draft pick

So for the Caps basically Perrault, Kuznetsov & a 1st round pick.

Yeah, that's much more appealing than a Semin trade. Very pricey though, and knowing what I've heard from GMGM, that'd never happen. But that's about the price being asked.

That's an awful lot for a concussed player who may or may not be in your teams lineup.

Agreed. GM Joe seemed like he was opening up shop for him the other day when he said all options were open, but the trading option isn't going to be as effective now as it would've been a few weeks back. Teams that may target him will know this and low-ball him, because that's just the responsible thing to do.

who the hell wants a broke dick anyway? If he's not on the ice skating by next monday forget it. I give a shit what he's done in the past... what is he doing now?

Something that has slowly dawned on me, what with the focus on ‘legit’ press sources engaging in trade speculation, and trying to egg GMs into making big trades: If you’re a journalist and there’s nothing to write about, it’s hard to justify your own existence. And you know your publisher is going to ask, "Why are we paying you, again?"

All of this reeks of desperation. It has nothing to do with keeping the public informed about things that are actually true. It seems like they will fade to nothing if they can’t get people’s attention. If there’s no big story, you almost have to pretend that there is one.

Almost all reporters are speculating now because a couple of years ago teams fired anyone within their organization who spoke to the media about a trade that was about to go down. The teams want to be able to tell the player themselves he's been traded. They don't want the player to hear it from the media.

^^^^this the fact that he hasn't been playing and appears to be damaged goods makes you question the motives of the reporters. With all the time and money these outlets put into the trade deadline.Combined with allot of the big names and other players already being moved and injuries to other rumored players.I could imagine most of these reporters are frantically trying to dig up any angle they can to justify their positions.
