Good fiction writers do that. I have never been to Spain, but I now what a Spanish bullfight feels like due to Hemingway, or the streets of 1890's London due to Doyle. It may be through another person's eye but that os how we know most things. Sorry you can't/don't experience that.

I actually like the city. It may be the most different city that I've ever visited. I mean you could not readily identify it as a metropolis of the United States. One of my favorite cities along with Boston.

New Orleans has a problem, but it isn't as great as Detroit or Baltimore. New Orleans has character and history.
