There's a lot of "This is the most positive I've felt about the Bears in (insert ridiculously long period here)" banter going on this offseason from Bears fans and media.

I find that insane.

Literally last year...LAST F*CKING YEAR...everyone was talking about how Caleb Williams was in the greatest situation in NFL history for a rookie QB...

...and we had arguably one of the worst seasons of my lifetime.

I ain't expecting sh*t out of this team until it's on the field and REAL.

Im with you....but we are vastly improved.....on paper that is.

BJ has absolutley GOTTA BE better than Eberlose ever was.....
Same with the oline, just has to be better than that dysmal line from last season......
I dont know how it could get any worse.....with what Caleb put up those numbers with those two coaches and that line,it can only get better.....
Not saying top of the league type of offense, but I actually do expect better....
My biggest concern is the defense....Are we gonna be able to stop anyone....??.....for real, are we??

Meh, I was always looking at last year as exciting since we got introduced to Caleb and Rome. I thought we could make the playoffs, but we were more likely to go .500. I was holding out hope the Oline would be above average. Instead, we were never any good and we were injured. Nate Davis was a hope and see guy. At the beginning of the season we thought he could be good because he had an excuse the previous season (his mom died). That was also without realizing how bad the coaching staff would turn out.

We replaced Teven Jenkins, Coleman Shelton, and Nate Davis with Joe Thuney, Drew Dalman, and Jonah Jackson. Our three worst OLine positions became strengths.

We added depth to our DLine, which was the bears easiness last year. If they can pressure the QB, this defense becomes very good.

We replaced Matt Eberflus and Shane Waldron with Ben Johnson and Dennis Allen. Not only is it an improvement in play calling and coaching overall, it must be an improvement in game management.

We still have holes. I think we need another pass rusher and a running back, but if the ball bounces our way, I think we could make the playoffs. We might even contend. Anything less than .500 is a failure imho.

The one difference, last year, while yes, we lauded over Caleb Williams, the mill stone hanging over the team was the O line. Yes the Bears grabbed a RT who is working well and the injured 3 rounder Amasomething or other, is perhaps going to be healthy this year, the Bears had a great offseason picking up what amounts to a new interior O line. Smart veteran players with credentials. Plus a second rounder that should challenge for LT.

AND, all of us fussed over a defensive head coach.

What we have is looking new and fresh. New coaching staff. New O line up the gut. Some new Offensive toys. All something to be very hopeful about.

this offense better be humming by the middle of the year.
:agree:

If he sticks true to his word, Ben Johnson better have the starters hitting in camp, practice, and preseason as much as the NFL guidelines allow.

Last 2 coaches "rested" starters and had "great walk-thrus." We all see how that preparation got the team humming.

Not sure if this has already been brought up - been out of town for most of this week. But I'm glad the Bears extended Thuney:

Sure, he's 32, but he remains in great shape, having only missed two games in his career. Relatively speaking his extension is a bargain.

I still think we should ink Lewis to his final year. Nice way to end a solid career. And no one's gonna say with a straight face that our current #3 TE, Durham Smythe, is better than Lewis.

Meh. I think anyone on last year's loser ass team that doesn't have the talent to warrant keeping should be out. Yes, Eberflus and Waldron were arguably one of the worst coaching duos the Chicago Bears have ever had...but the players threw in the towel after that Washington game and losers like Lewis and Keenan Allen were supposed to be veterans that helped quell that sh*t. Didn't happen...Actually the opposite. So yeah, no thanks. We have enough tight ends. Just win. That's what we need to "change the culture."

Not sure how Lewis as our #3 tight end had a negative/loser impact on our roster or what he could have demonstrated to inspire the team after that Commanders debacle. But it's apparent you'll get your wish anyway. It's probably safe to assume that if Poles wanted Lewis back he would have already signed him by now.

but the thing with Lewis is you can wait until just about every other option is off the table to sign him. The reason to bring him in is because it is a new system and signing him late will mean probably not playing him for the first few weeks until he is caught up. I just think Ben Johnsons offense depends on having multiple receivers in the game that the defense knows they might have to cover, and with Lewis in the game, its almost like the way the KC offensive line will give up a pass or a run play. You might as well bring in Kramer as your extra offensive tackle. Who knows, if Ozzy does not win the starting LT job, he might be that guy. But in those cases, the lions were just stating they were about to push you man on man. That will be nice to see in Chicago.

There is no reason Lewis should get paid to never practice, play five plays a game, and get flagged for holding on the one positive play he is on the field for.
Would it be mean to bring him into camp, help the new kid, then release him before the season?
