TJ Edwards got extended by a couple years.
Guess we aren't cutting him.
We were never cutting/looking to get rid of Edwards or Edmunds, for that matter.
One week more...will be nice to end the speculation. I'm expecting Jeanty if he falls to us at this point. I will not be happy if we trade up for him though. Way too much smoke.
Let me preface this by saying I've come to loathe the 10th pick in this draft. Too few blue chippers, bunch of "starters" for the next two days. You dare defy the experts on this board?
Yeah, same. If he falls to us and Poles can't help himself I won't be completely pissed. I still prefer a new LT. But the other improvements to the line should make drafting a RB more palatable.
If he takes a TE though.....I'm gonna be fucking pissed.
Won't bother me unless that TE busts, Warren is considered a blue chip player. Like i mentioned before Johnson LOVES the 2 TE set, His offense ran this set #2 or #3 in the entire NFL last season.
KMET doesn't have a match on the team currently. One new blocking TE and a purhaps... that's it.
But are any picks so critical to his entire offensive strategy?
Great assessment. Wasn't exactly meaning critical to Offensive Strategy, as much as meaning critical to his offensive sets. Looking at Strategy though, noting the Lions two top TE's caught 73 passes last year. You suggesting Kmet plus the new guy they brought in produce that? Or would a Kmet / Warren do that? Looks like, yes the Bears had the same set, it was not used in the same manner. Set and use are two different things.Okay...but every team in the NFL "loves" the 2 TE set. The Bears ran 2 TEs a ton last season. But how many targets is that second tight end actually getting? The answer? Not many. At all. And that is what matters. The Lions #2 TE last year had a whole 13 catches.
You basically put yourself in a situation to pay Kmet a lot of money to see 15-20 targets all season.
Actually, the guy they signed is a pass catcher. He's seen over 40 targets and 30 catches twice in a season. He got 9 balls last year....the Lions #2 TE (BJ loves tight ends) caught 13.
Saying a TE is critical to his offensive strategy when the Bears have a capable starter and a backup already on the roster....is fucking asinine to me.
You're pretending that don't already have a pass catching TE. And look....I'm not a Kmet guy. I think he's average on his best day. But he can be really productive in a better ran offense for sure. Kmet could easily be an 80 catch guy.

Gonna file this extension under no brainer, which goes along with the extension for Gordon.TJ Edwards got extended by a couple years.

I've been saying for some time it makes little to no sense using our valuable 10th pick on a TE. And the argument I see so many people make about how Johnson employs a lot of 12 personnel in his plays never take into effect that LaPorta accounted for 83% of the targeted TE passes in Johnson's offense last year. So obviously the second TE was primarily there just for blocking. You'd think that Warren (or Colston Loveland if he's the pick) and Kmet would all but have to evenly split the targets. Either that or one of them is gonna be getting screwed.I don't see how a TE elevates this offense.
Pass protection and a better running game elevates this offense. I'm not even in the gotta get Jeanty boat but that at least makes a little sense to me.

Still, it appears that Warren and to a lesser extent, Loveland have taken over as the top predicted pick for our boyz. The vast majority of these, if not everyone of them, is of course speculation, but it blows my mind that when the earliest mocks appeared, none of them ever had TE as our top get. Now it's the most popular. So we simply can't rule out Poles taking one of them assuming they're still on the board when we're up.
Let's put it another way. If the Bears take a TE at 10, be it Warren or even Loveland, that tells us Johnson had his hands all over this decision. And I'll say the same thing if the 10th is used for a RB.Exactly why I loathe this pick.
We’re definitely getting a RB this draft. If Jeanty is there, he’s probably the pick. I think he’s gone by our pick though. If not, Omarion Hampton might be an option, or several different backs later. Someone like Kaleb Johnson could be there later, and he would be an excellent choice to split time with swift. Some analysts saying the Bears may go with Jeanty because Johnson had the 1-2 punch at RB in Detroit.
Thoughts?

I'm in complete agreement with BGFP here. I see a RB taken no later than the 3rd round. If Jeanty is gone, likely taken by your Raiders, I'm not ruling out them going with Hampton, altho my preference will be taking one of the top OTs where at least one or two should still be there at 10. Then taking the best RB still on the board at either of our two second rounders or as I just stated, no lower than our 3rd round. We’re definitely getting a RB this draft. I'm torn on wether we go WR first and RB in the 2nd round.....we have an early pick in round 2 where we could take Hampton if we go receiver first.I'm in complete agreement with BGFP here.
