I mean, I was planning on playing a bunch out of position...

That wouldn't work in almost any draft...unless you have more current players.

Your centers/PF:

Malone - can play PF
Mutumbo - defensive center
Griffin - can play PF
Mcadoo - can play PF or center but I would think more suited for PF in this draft.
Ming - can play center
Wallace - defensive center

So you have 3 true centers and 3 players that are best suited for PF. Basically your two utility guys are big men...

I would start Ming with Karl (nasty combo) and put Mutumbo as backup C.
Then you could play Mcadoo a scoring forward with Mutumbo.

I would have grabbed another shooting wing than Griffin imo. And Wallace (although a great defender) isn't needed since you have Mutumbo.

Also, you have two PG's on your 2nd lineup. I don't mind it bc Billups can shoot and play off-ball better than most true PG's so that isn't a big deal imo

Honestly, I think positions in basketball are suggestions only... All you need is a distributor, a scorer and enough defense to stop the other team from scoring more...

I don't think it is bad to play a PF at SF or a center at PF... they just need to be paired wisely...

True but in your case Griffin, the Mailman can't play the 3. McAdoo I really have no clue but I'm guessing the same since he mainly played the 5 and most of his scoring came from inside and he was a great rebounder. Guys like Anthony Davis (who play the 4 or 5 in the modern NBA) could possibly play the wing bc they are more athletic, can shoot and guard the perimeter extremely well.

You're right in that basketball positions are only suggestions, however what you're looking for more than anything else is skillset. For example Charles Barkley is only 6'6", but there's no way he could be a 2 guard in the NBA because he doesn't possess the skill set to be a 2. Likewise he also wouldn't be able to guard a 2.

I mean for example if you throw out positions and you wanted to play McAdoo or Griffin at the 3...but most definitely even if your throw positions out no big men are playing the 1 or 2...this is who Griffin and McAdoo would have to guard defensively...

Barry
Erving
Durant
Kawhi
Lebron
Baylor
Pippen
Bird
King
Havlicek
Hill
Nique
Worthy
English
Dantley
Rice
McGrady
Pierce
Stojakovic

Instead of having a true SF guard those players...it really makes a huge difference and even if you wanted to say they have the advantage on their end offensively bc they can post the player up...a lot of those modern guys can guard the 4 and that would also mean you have to take your 4 or 5 off the block and put them on the perimeter even though not one can shoot other than Yao or Karl.

Defense??? lots of these players barely play defense... And even if they are going to size is an advantage it would allow them to give the space they lack from the potential speed differences... and good luck guarding them as well..

But my original plan was to have my 2 6th men to be billups and Wallace.

Lineup A

Westbrook
Paul George
Dantley
Malone
Mutumbo
-billups

Kevin Johnson
Harden
Mcadoo
Griffin
Ming

Wallace.

I would flip Billups and RW personally...this is actually really tough bc of all your big men though...your best bet is playing McAdoo at the 3...Westbrook could be an immediate scoring threat off the bench and he could could really sub for Billups or George

1st lineup
Billups
Paul George
Dantley
Malone
Ming
6th - Westbrook

2nd Lineup
KJ
Harden
McAdoo
Griffin
Mutumbo
6th - Wallace

Westbrook is also my best pg distributor. I want him passing to Malone.

But it doesn’t matter. That’s not the way we did this mock. Lol. And it doesn’t matter because I clearly have the best basketball team in this mock.

Yeah he is your best distributor but he also is your best ballhog and he can't play off ball. I would want him play a 6th man role. Alongside Dantley, who was a scorer and Paul George, we saw how that worked out, isn't the best fit imo. It's the reason why I don't draft Westbrook. IMO his best fit is putting a bunch of shooters around him. He can't play off ball and he needs the ball in his hands.

Dislike.

How do you not put Payton and Kemp on the same squad? Blasphemous.

Mine is easy...

G : Stephen Curry
G : George Gervin
F : Kevin Durant
F : Kevin Garnett
C : Hakeem Olajuwon
6th - Drazen Petrovic

G : Walt Frazier
G : David Thompson
F : Dominque Wilkins
F : Pau Gasol
C : Dwight Howard
6th - George Mikan

Could switch Thompson and Gervin but that's about it.
