I believe you used the word "useless".
-
I actually think he has negative value. He is a mediocre coach, but his antics bring his value to a negative.
Just to be fair, I am no Mack Brown fan. He is a CEO/Salesman. HE is not a coach.

Good thing they got to play Nebraska in 2010 or it would have been the first 1 conference win season in program history.

Nothing stops a Texas losing streak like Nebraska.

Nebraska is the ultimate Texas Slump-Buster.

It was the easiest Texas win on the schedule every season.

Death, Taxes, and Texas beating Nebraska.

Mack Brown would have 10 consecutive undefeated seasons and multiple trophies if he got to play NU every game.

Unfortunately, the " Bye weeks" from Lincoln are gone.

Even an FCS team presents a greater challenge to Texas than does Nebraska.

That door swings both ways. The argument can be made that the B1G is a MUCH stronger conference defensively.

Not really:

During bowl season, B1G defenses gave up an average of 32.29ppg. Big XII gave up 28.8ppg. B1G defenses tend to get severely raped in bowl season once they step outside their weak as hell conference.

I am not a huge fan of Mack Brown, I think we could do better, but I also remember what it was like in the years right before Mack took control. Texas under Mackovick and McWilliams was 72-54-2, Under Mack they went 150-43. Mack was a master recruiter, still is but his coaching days have long been gone. He acts more like the CEO coach and relies too much on his coordinators. The problem Texas has is that the people they hire for coordinators are just using Texas to get a quick jump into head coaching, there is no stability. Normally when this happens the Head Coach can step in and start coaching the team, but Mack I believe let dust build up on his playbook for way too long and this is why we have struggled so much. But to say he is one of the top 5 worst coaches in college football is wrong. People assume recruits just flock here, but if that was the case then explain 87-97 for Texas? Mack made recruits flock here and still does, he also laid the framework for whoever replaces him to make an easy transition, unlike his predecessors. Just my two cents here.

You can argue over position coaches all day but lets just talk about coordinators.

Greg Davis 98-10
Bryan Harrison 11-12
Applewhite/Wyatt 13

Carl Reese 98-03
Greg Robinson 04
Gene Chizik 05-06
Akina/MacDuff 07
Will Muschcamp 08-10
Manny Diaz 11-13

I don't see all these coaches that Texas is recycling being their problem. Their problem is they can't beat OU (Mack is 5-9 vs Stoops) and when the do beat OU they tend to lose to a scrub that costs them the conference.

Bob Stoops

Mike Leach 99
Mark Mangino 00
Long/Wilson 02-05
Kevin Wilson 06-10
Heupel/Norvel 11-13

Mike Stoops 99-03
Brent Venabels 04-11
Mike Stoops 12-13

Stoops has changed coordinators just as many times as Mack.

Didn't Garrett Gilbert have more rushing yards than T-tragic and Rex "don't call me a scrub" Burkhead in that game COMBINED?

Nebraska has always been the equivalent to Kansas - just another W on the schedule for Texas.

Believe it or not Fran has made Texas State a somewhat respectable program.

Aggy's problem was they should have never taken him away from Alabama.

Shut up. It's our secret that it's only good when Alabama takes coaches from A&M and not the other way around.

He didn't do too bad at TCU. What did he do at Bama the one season he was there? 7-5 I think. Thanks "Big Money Ags" for replacing the best coach in school history with "The Fran Plan":L

Ten years ago I didn't find it funny.

Jackie Sherrill and Gene Stallings didn't do to bad...Who else did we pick from the Bear Bryant coaching tree?

Yeah but Stallings came from A&M -> Alabama, and so did Bear. That direction is fine.

It's the other direction that doesn't work out so well.

Ty Willingham has to be on the Mt. Rushmore of worst all time college coaches.

0-12 in Div1? How is that even remotely possible unless you are a complete talentless fraud.

It took years to undo the scorched earth massacre that POS fraud did to UW. The mere mention of his name or picture makes me vomit.
