If you think it was only one ref I got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you
Might there have been more? I guess...but is it OK if we just go by what we know and not make things up to support an agenda?

Hope you are not thinking league is involved but if you do can you be the first with this theory to call out the mastermind willing to risk prison time and why?

Your first concern is unfounded to anyone without that tinfoli hat. I mean, they are going to rig the lottery for the Cavs, SA, MN, NO, Portland (even though Oden didn't work out), etc?

Agree...but you have those like @eaglesnut who buy all the conspiracies.

It;s also nuts - and not saying you are doing this - to think it's rigged because it's behind closed doors. It's behind closed doors due to how the lottery works where they pick #1 team first. Pretty boring TV if that's how they did it. Just not seeing them rigging it and a guy like, say, Mark Cuban, saying "whatever is best for the league....."

Also agree. I don't believe it's rigged either, but again, there are those that do.

I still want them to get rid of the lottery. The only thing it would cost them is that 30-60 minute show when they announce the draft order. People will still watch the draft, just like they do with the NFL draft.

Donaghy had another league official bragging he was their “go to” guy for fixing games

(That kind of statement against interest isam exception and this not hearsay)

Right @WiggyRuss

When considering the number of people who would have to be in on it...amazing that there hasn't been one person who was involved speaking out because they had a book to sell, needed money, or wanted to clear their conscience.

No doubt there are those who think the lottery and games are rigged. as to latter no one willing to say who is rigging willing to risk prison time and why.

I like the lottery but not like it's a crazy notion to me to want it gone.

Right @WiggyRuss
Yeah,....and not like a ref willing to fix games could possibly lie about something, right? Never mind this was nearly 20 years ago, right?

Once again, who is the mastermind within NBA if still going on willing to risk prison time and why?

Yeah, I've just never been a fan of it.

I know that the teams with the 5 worst records are guaranteed a top 5 pick...but there are times where the draft isn't 5 players deep when it comes to "difference maker" type players. If the worst team ends up with the 4 or 5 pick...chances are that it just prolongs their rebuild.

Exactly and why I doubt it would happen. Takes one guy with a grudge to spill the beans and F everyone involved.

I hear ya and maybe I feel different if I cheered for a team that would not only spend what it takes but also where FAs would want to play.

Though I guess where our team is now I could see FAs wanting to play here....not that we can pay but that's the CBA not market.

The Cavs and OKC are great examples of how "smaller market/non destination city" teams can put themselves into contention. Draft smart, make shrewd trades and while star level FA's still may not want to go there...you can get good rotational veterans who will come in and help the young core.

And you can get guys you traded for (like Mitchell) who will decide to stay when their FA comes up.

correct.....we are not a city that can be in a rebuild and attract a top level FA to come here. But the style of play we have and the culture some likely can see could attract lesser guys to come and as you mention want to stay once here. Guessing it's the same in OKC.

You think lottery is fixed because ONE ref got caught? League wanted to help Cavs, MN, NO, Portland, Orlando, Memphis, SA, etc?

Who was the mastermind behind the fix and how did they get guys like Cuban to agree?

It allows doubt to creep into everything NBA. Accurate or not, doubt is there.

No rigging possible if they dump the lottery.

No one reasonable thinks it's rigged. dump the lotto and the tinfoil hat wearers will find a conspiracy as to why.

We've made arguments as to why it should be dumped, is there any legitimate reason why it should still exist? Clearly it doesn't keep teams from tanking.

don't really care one way or the other. I guess if I had to choose I'd like to keep it but wont care if it's dropped.

I think they should drop it.

But not until next season.
Can't see how they'd drop it for the next draft if they did since teams went ahead with season assuming it existed. Also is it part of the CBA?

Not sure who besides Jazz would vote to drop it for 2025 draft. Maybe some playoff teams who don't care one way or other.
