Again...because the Thunder were expected to be a top team. How many Coach of the Year awards did Phil Jackson win? Pat Riley? JJ Redick is a rookie HC who got his team to the 3rd seed in the West...but the Lakers were expected to be good before the Luka trade and even better after it...so he doesn't get to be on the list either.
Yep.

It's between Udoka and Bickerstaff to be honest. Atkinson has done a good job but he's also JJ's shoes.....they were expected to be good....

Cleveland got 3 #1 picks in 4 years and still sucked until LeBron chose to do a second stint there. The #1 is not a guarantee of anything.

Hell, Jordan went #3.

Poor judgement doesn't excuse bad policy.

Jeff Van Gundy refuses to give ball to Nikola Jokic during tussle in wild playoff scene

Gotta love JVG. lol

Love Christian Braun's comment on it:

“He looked pretty good,” Nuggets guard Christian Braun told reporters of Van Gundy, according to the Denver Post. “I mean, he held his ground. Held onto the ball pretty well. It’s pretty embarrassing for [Jokic]. But he was in the weight room afterward, so that’s good.”

But that is the point. Most of the teams at the very bottom are there due to poor judgement. Just giving them the #1 pick won't make the bad judgement go away. Sure you have to do something to try to help them, but I appreciate the occasional random nearly decent team getting the #1. And I root for a team that has been 'screwed by the lottery'.

That doesn't mean taking away that pick fixes things. If the league wants to maintain competitive balance, the bad teams need to be building towards contention as quickly as possible.

Decent teams should only get #1 picks via trade.

There is never going to be competitive balance. There are going to be good teams and bad teams. Boosting a mediocre team to good or contention can be just as valuable, or more so, to the competitive balance than raising a bad team to mediocrity. Hiring poor GMs is really the issue and that is either a GM or an owner issue. A real solution would be to have a stronger minor league that is included in the draft and a relegation system.

Big game for the Knicks tonight. It would be huge to go up 2-0
