Maybe

Maybe not

Anthony Mason wouldn't be in the league today. A ton of examples like that.

It is a lock.

He was a 2 time All American. Would have been a first round pick back then. Probably would have played a similar role.

Highly skilled 6’7” players make NBA rosters in any era.

Point is yes there are guys in the league today that wouldnt have been in the league 25 30 years ago. And there are plenty of guys in the league 25 30 years ago that wouldn't be in todays league. A guy like Edey would have been a multiple time all star in the 90s. Today he is a JAG.

Mason was a good passer as well....rebound and play defense. And score too.

So blocks are the main way to determine defense?

Mason was a very good defender back in the day.

Back in the day a big body who could bang in the paint was a premium need. Today it is not as much. You need quick feet and ability to rotate and rim protect.

He was a decent free throw shooter. I will give him that.

This isnt as much about Anthony Mason though as it is about the difference in needs in both eras.

There are guys who wouldnt fit in one era or the other

I agree that he probably finds a roster for a little while. He wasn’t unskilled.

But he would have been a bad defender today. He relied on strength and physicality to defend. Unless he drastically changed his body, he wouldn’t be able to move his feet well enough to be a plus defender today.

That probably leaves him on the outside looking in or as a fringe G league type today.

He played at Tennessee State and was still a damn good NBA player in any era.

And again i wasnt harping on Mason himself but that the skillset requirements today push guys from the 90s out of todays league also.
