If nobody is being stopped for speeding? It doesn't matter. BTW, everyone speeds, great example.

Uninforced rules are not rules but merely suggestions.
Your premise is based in the notion of "enforcement" or consequences for violation of the rules no in the existence of the standard. Uninforced rules may be suggestions but the lack of adherance to enforcement does not negate the standard or the rules.

Traveling rules have changed though.

The way the gather is defined today is different. It allows for gray area that has essentially legalized moves like the euro step that would have been travels under traditional standards.

BS.

Any comment on the fact that people were having these same conversations about traveling 35 years ago?

Some rules have actually changed and become more lenient, but the single biggest difference is social media and availability of video clips.

Anybody can make a clip reel and comment on them today. Was much, much harder before the internet.

Don’t confuse that with thinking that stars from the 80s and 90s didn’t travel.
I agree with your statements, tlance. Other than preponderance of availability of video evidence that we have today (social media), back in the 60's when I watched NBA Basketball, traveling was heavily frowned upon by everyone involved (the NBA, players, coaches, fans, etc).

Enforcement of traveling (violations of dribbling) by referees was way more prevalent and thus hardly anyone did it because as tlance rightly stated the consequences for the offending players was too much of a penalty for all to risk. So, they just didn't do it.

Indeed that is true. And that is one reason I often press for a return to the integrity of the game much to the same pressing Shaq and Kareem still express today.

In the 60s I totally agree. Was before my time, but The game was officiated far differently.

It was the 80s when things really started to change. The league truly began promoting its star players and they changed the way they officiated games in an effort to make it more entertaining.

To me palming is the big one, technically a lot of the way pros dribble is a palming violation but it's a hell of a lot more entertaining to watch

There is a deepfake out there somewhere that has LeBron catching the ball around half court and taking 6 or 7 steps before dunking. Had close to 3 million views.

But that is a fake. It is not a real clip.

Looks like you got got.
If that be true…

Ok, we can now say

Yeah, the league figured out that if they let the less obvious stuff go (1 extra step, "palm" or "carry" the ball a little), the athleticism of NBA players makes for some incredible plays.

So they, correctly imo, let that stuff slide as long as it's not egregious.

A lot of 'Nique, MJ, etc. greatest moves involved an extra step or illegal dribble...Kareem got away with a bit of a push off sometimes when shooting his skyhook, especially if he was being "bodied up" by a defender.

Just the way things are I guess. The Thunder have never won one, but if they do get ready for the best team ever talk because their regular season is on that path. I don’t mind them being overlooked, this team is too grounded to get a big head though. As a Thunder fan this is beyond fun to watch.
