It is sounding like they do not consider Burke a long man any longer. That created a void. Odorizzi's injury created another one. They should have signed a long man and a closer, if that is the case. Unless we are not in contention for a wildcard, I imagine we will have to vastly overpay for a closer in July.

It is just short-sighted to put your minor league starting pitching depth in the bullpen. Now if both, the starters get stretched out enough, and Odorizzi comes back, by April 20th or so and we can send Ragans and Dunning back to the minors by then, then maybe it all works out okay.
I hear Burke was a 2 inning reliever surely between Ragans Burke and Otto, one st least is paired with Winn and guess Kent and Bradford. Maybe Odorizzi with some short stints.
Really doubt we have to overpay for long relief.
Just the closer is up in the air IMO

The overpay I mentioned will be for a closer.

There will no actual rule changes, and the pitch clock will remain the same – 15 seconds with no one on base and 20 seconds with runners on base – but simple modifications will be made, MLB and union officials say.

“I’ve met with six teams, already, our feet are not in stone this. On one hand, we are prepared to make adjustments based on input, on the other hand, we want to give it a chance to see exactly how it plays out after a period of adjustments in some regular season games before we make any really significant changes.’’

Among the adjustments:

Pitchers will be informed that no warmup pitches will be permitted with less than 30 seconds left on the clock in between innings.Players will be provided extra time if they’re involved in an inning-ending defensive play and leading off the next inning.Baserunners, who are running on a pitch, will be given time by the umpires to get back on a foul balls.Hitters also will be given time to be set in the batter’s box, with at least eight seconds left on the pitch clock, preventing quick pitches.

They need a catcher. Lucky they got Moreno from Jays. Huff would be attractive to them me thinks

When I saw the Kelly was starting the game I was surprised by that. Didn't think he would hold up in a game like this and it turned out I was right. I wouldn't have minded if I had been wrong as I have been wrong many times. LOL!

I still wish we would have been in on Moreno.

That is different from what Bochy was reported to have said this past weekend.

I'm aware of that but production trumps rhetoric and I think the rhetoric was meant to motivate him...

Since he seems to be producing at the plate much better this Spring I just can't see wasting that sitting on the bench (now whether or not his ST production translates to regular season remains to be seen). He wasn't going to get that many ABs as an IFer and so playing more OF is the only way to get something he needs, hence the idea of a platoon. But now it seems as if they're not really thrilled with Bubba's play this Spring (and Taveras injury) and it looks like Josh "may" end up being the Opening Day CFer if he keeps producing...

Unfortunately Wyatt Langford suffered an injury a few days ago that will cause him to miss over a month. He was hit in the groin and suffered a ruptured testicle which required surgery. I am in pain just typing this. Ouch!!!

Had a SS take a bad hop to the package, he still managed to throw the guy out for the 3rd out. We helped him get back to the dugout where he pulled his cup out and it was split almost completely in 2 pieces. Got his backup cup out and went back out and finished the game, needless to say he said he was a bit "discolored" from the hit...

I think Bochy will play his best current players We are in a win now stage. I just hope hope guys like Duran and Smith sit too much on a roster. Doubt if Duran does since he is assigned but while Smith is hot let’s play him

Enjoyed the game but there was no tension for me. It is a glorified exhibition. Not like the scope of say even a World Cup. Sorry not sorry

Yeah, managers as a group have strong tendencies toward playing veterans over younger guys. Good or bad it is part of how the managers learn the game.

That is why the best rebuilds are done more like the Astros did. You bring up the young guys and let them take their lumps. Some see that as tanking, but it allows you to find out which young guys can play given regular playing time. Just as we were nearing that point, ownership lost patience.

The way we have done it is probably going to lead to us finding out 3 to 5 years down the road that we let some really good talent get away. Some of that talent will be better than some of the young talent we kept.

We shall see how DH LF and CF play out. If guys stink it up others deserve a chance. But guys like Leody have had shots. I hope he gets to play at some point but the leash is a two way street.
The young guys should get more rope but it is not limitless
I think Smith looks like he has improved. He certainly is a spark plug when on base
