That’s easy for us to say when it won’t cost us 40 million dollars.

This kid played his ass off all year.

His choice is to come back early, not 100% or miss out on 43 million dollars.

"Loses $43m if he doesn't": Tyrese Haliburton's unlikely All-NBA bid amid injury absence sparks concern among fans

No, I get that part. The incentives are crazy.

But that's what the problem is. Incentives IMO should be based on team accomplishments not personal ones.

Win the title, make an extra $40m, not make an All-NBA.

Why can’t they focus on both?

Because basketball is a team sport. This is only beneficial to himself. Not the fans, not the people paying his salary.

I am certainly not going to care if a multimillionaire doesn't get an EXTRA bonus.

Nor do I care if a player on my team sweeps the board in individual accomplishments but the team doesn't do squat.

everyone is just going to have to look at the supermax differently. It’s meant to be a bonus for staying with your team in the first place. Next you have to be all nba and now you have to play 65 games. It’s basically a bonus on an enormous contract to begin with.

You do realize playing at an all nba level usually increase the team success right? You don't see guys on 22-60 teams on all nba

I agree with this and with this injury BS, they should go that route. Haliburton should be eligible to make a nice extra 10M if his team makes the playoffs then another 10 if they win a series and another 20 if they make the finals

It’s all in how you look at it, saying “I didnt play enough games or I would have got that” is just how it is now. I have zero issue with it, it’s bonus money to begin with.

Don't allow bonuses, etc. to be tied to things they can't control.

Nah, protect it or walk away. Murray is an upgrade but this Lakers team isn't going anywhere. Ham should have been canned. Even with Murray, they aren't gonna contend. So if Atlanta won't do it for that package in the OP tweet or with a protected pick, just walk and save the assets for the Summer when its easier to remake your roster. I'm not throwing out a full unprotected pick to go from 10th place, out in the play in to 8th place, lose in the 1st round

Youre already getting off easy

Stop being greedy lol

Sure.

But, how does one change the rules that tie these bonuses to things they can’t control AFTER you signed your contract?

Call me naive. But, I was unaware you could legally add shit after the fact.

Could you imagine your landlord coming to you and saying after deep contemplation, the only currency he will accept is blow jobs and fentanyl?

Sure.

It can also be the difference between a guy staying in Okc or Cleveland or leaving those franchises high and dry for the call of a larger market.

If the money is the same winning is the only advantage you have.

Winning means chips, not conference or even NBA finals.

This is the problem I have with what Dame did, you get the supermax to stay in the first place.
