It isn’t about minutes or being the guy. It is about his usage when he is on the court AND how good the staff was on selling him on it.

Didn’t look like Vogel tried too hard to do that.

Vogel wasn't the only one who coached him. But no, he was openly against getting him and really didn't try to find a way to use him which why he got fired. Ham on the other hand, tried several different approaches, but Russ still thought he was a top level player and wasn't accepting of less.

To be fair, Lakers fans never really accepted him and that, combined with Vogel not even really trying to coach him may have caused him to "dig in" and be less willing to change. He can be hardheaded. lol
