What ammunition does Lou have to trade up with? Calgary has three 1's & sit in the 6th spot. The Blue Jackets have 3 first round picks & a number of talented prospects to dangle if they want to move up. I just don't think the Devils can offer anything close to what other lottery teams can to move up.

Moving down is another matter. Lou will obviously listen to Conte as to the player they want. The question is where do they believe that player should be slotted in the draft order.

Not a ton unfortunately which leads me to believe we'll wind up moving down. But they have a couple of top tier D prospects (Urbom and Gelinas are ready to make the jump), some vets on D (Volchenkov and Tallinder seem like the most likely trade candidates) as well as something like the rights to Clarkson (although they've started to negotiate with him) and a couple of 3rd line type prospects that haven't panned out so far (Tedenby/Josefson).

I really don't want to move Merrill as I think he is going to be an absolute stud in the NHL, and I would prefer to have a solid D corps for life after Marty, but the Devils have absolutely no top 6 talent in the farm (with the possible exception of Matteau).

A forward should be available at 9. We just don't know who it is or if Lou will want him.

He still put up 37 points in 48 games. That's not bad, especially when we consider RNH was either injured or not playing well for most of the season.

Johansson has a long way to go before he's in Eberle's class.

It's this years pick from what I understand.

Pittsburgh, St. Louis, LA, NYR, Minny, Boston don't have 1st round picks in this years draft. Plus there could be more deals involving picks on draft day.
