Valery Nichushkin has dropped from #2 to #4, with Nathan MacKinnon and Jonathan Drouin each rising one spot to #2 and #3 in this month’s rankings.

“Nathan MacKinnon and Jonathan Drouin tore it up in the QMJHL playoffs, leading the Halifax Mooseheads to their first QMJHL championship and a trip to the Memorial Cup”, says ISS Hockey Director of Scouting Dennis MacInnis. “ISS scout favorite Valery Nichushkin slightly disappointed at the U18 World Championships with a less than inspired performance, after playing very well for Traktor in the KHL finals.”

It's interesting that ISS has Shinkaruk listed as a 'C' because he usually plays on the wing. I think the top 3 are pretty much locks, just not sure of the order they will be selected (although it is pretty much a given Colorado will take Seth Jones No. 1). Carolina seems to like Russians, hopefully they take Nichushkin leaving one of Barkov, Lindholm, or Monahan for the Flames.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if Carolina took a Defenseman like Nurse.

Somebody will fall, they always do. Nichushkin is the most likely.

i'd be really irritated if the flyers picked morin. especially if pulock is still on the board.

I wouldn't worry about it the order isn't even right. I will be surprised if the Isles take a defenseman after selecting 7 last year. However, if there is one thing I take from last years draft is the Isles will take the BPA on their board.

Horvat won't be available at 20. I doubt Wennberg is their at the pick slotted in this mock either.

I hope Monahan falls to us at 9, I think he's going to be a solid NHLer.

ya i'm not too worried about it.. the flyers go with the BPA strategy too, but i expect they cater to forwards a big because they've had pretty good success drafting them, and basically no success drafting dmen.. i'd be shocked if the flyers drafted pulock like i want them to :pout:

though sbisa seems to have been a pretty solid pick a few years ago.. he's doing pretty well in anaheim

Pitkanen has had a solid career as well. I don't think you have anything to worry about. When the Flyers keep their 1st round picks they don't seem to miss. They might not keep the player, but that player usually plays well in the NHL.

The big debate amongst Flames fans is Monahan or Lindholm. Many feel Monahan is the safer pick, but others want Lindholm because they feel he has more high-end talent.

What do you think of Barkov? Do you think he'll be gone by #6?

Yeah, the assumption is Barkov will already be gone before the Flames make a selection.

/Unless they move up, but I don't think I want Feaster to move up.

I agree. There isn't any reason for the Flames to move up unless it's top 3. The price will probably be too steep to do so anyway. Calgary will probably get a good forward at 6 anyway. However, with the injury to Staal maybe Carolina will look at possibly taking a forward instead of D? They have a tough decision to make.

You want Monahan.

Or, well, anyone but Lindholm.

You don't want Lindholm 43. His game is quite Alfredsson-esque.

Meatballs to go!!!! :dhd:

But the rest of the Blue Jackets have heart, and there are five guys who can be captain.

The big debate for the Sabres seems to be taking whichever one of those guys the Flames don't take!

I'd be satisfied with either one of them in a Sabres uniform.
