Well, the Dodgers are on a two game winning streak, and I'm feeling just a tad of optimism. That may sound strange on a day when we lost Billingsley for the season, but here's why. Hitting. In game 3 with the Orioles and a minor league pitcher on the mound, we won with our hitting. Tonight, with Kershaw struggling, we won again with hitting. Crawford, M. Ellis, Gonzalez, and AJ Ellis are all hitting over 300. Kemp's hitting has picked up significantly in the past few games, though he's still not showing a lot of power. Most significantly, we've begun to hit better with RISP these past 2 games. I think we're going to be okay. We still badly need to do something with 3B, SS, and the bench. Hopefully those in command see that too and will do something about it soon.
As for the pitching, it's concerning, but I wouldn't say it's disastrous. Right now we have Kershaw, Lilly, Ryu, Beckett, and Fife. That's probably as good a rotation as we had most of last year, and we were one of the more successful pitching staffs in MLB on the year. Capuano won't be out long, and Greinke will be back eventually. I'm more concerned about Kershaw than anything else because his last 3 starts have not been up to standard. I hope he's not trying to play through an injury of some sort. After a rough patch, the bullpen has been good the past 2 games as well. It was nice to see Belisario not self destruct tonight.
Lilly facing Harvey tomorrow is problematic, but hopefully the offense will continue to improve and it will be 3 in a row.
