Remember that? Bengals offered (I believe) the same package that Cleveland took.

The proposed trade:

Atlanta gets - #4 overall pick in 2011 draft

Cincinnati gets - #21 overall pick, 59th overall pick, 124th pick in 2011 and 22nd overall pick and 120th overall

If that happened, the Falcons would have in all likelihood taken A.J. Green at #4. This would have pushed either Patrick Peterson or Julio Jones to Cleveland.

The picks that Cleveland got in that trade turned into:

2011

#21 - Phil Taylor (DT from Baylor)
#59 - Greg Little (WR from North Carolina)
#124 - Owen Marecic (FB from Stanford)

2012

#22 - Brandon Weeden (QB from Oklahoma State)
#120 - James-Michael Johnson (LB from Nevada)

Anybody regret the non-pulling of the trigger on that one?

Hard to regret picking AJ Green -- He is only in his second year and already at the top of his position. Assuming the guy stays healthy and stays clean he'll be an amazing talent for many years to come.

Several of those guys on Cleveland's club have bright futures -- But I don't know that any of them have the star potential of Green. Time will tell, but I'll take what we got.

Remember when people thought it was dumb to draft a WR 4th and insisted we needed defense, mostly Fairley?

I wanted Cam Newton...then I wanted another QB. Blaine Gabbert, I think.

I was in that boat. I was also for the trade with the Falcons which was actually better than what they offered the Browns.

Given all the facts, 1) the number of holes the team had especially on defense and what another very good lineman could do for the defense, 2) the number and value of the draft picks being offered, and 3) you only draft a Randy Moss, Terrel Owens, Calvin Johnson type with that high of a pick and you don't know if you actually have that until after the fact, I still have no regrets hoping we'd either trade or draft Fairley or another defensive player. It would have been the intelligent move.

That said, the Bengals got it right.

I would've taken the trade at the time. I would've been fleeced.

At the beginning of that draft season, I was all for Fairley or Bowers. However, as we got deeper into it and there were obvious concerns about the two (Bowers was clearly not the same post injury...Fairley a moron) I was pretty much content with picking Green, Peterson or Dareus at 4. My biggest concern with Green is that we didn't have a QB to get him the ball. I thought he was a great talent but I had no idea he was this good. Anyway, bengals got that one right. AJ is hands down the best player out of that class. He's HOF caliber.

I also friggin' loved Ryan Mallet in that draft and thought Dalton was a 'poor man's Colt McCoy'. Good times.

Coly McCoy would put up the same stats Andy has here. He may have been better, actually. He's certainly a more talented QB.

QB is not a plug and play positon nor is Cincinnati an easy place for a QB to succeed. Out of that draft class, Dalton is clearly outperforming all other QB's. His #'s are better, he has taken a team that many predicted to be unable to win a game to the playoffs. He's not Luck or RG III, but he's a pretty damned good young QB.

I hated that they passed up on the trade. it was a rebuilding team who had a bunch of needs to address..

I knew Green was good, but I had no idea he was this good...

good move by Mike Brown..

on a side note, imagine AJ Green on a dome team opposite Roddy White with a top flight veteran passer at QB.
