I don't think Vick is an accurate comparison. Vick has always been a run first QB, although the Eagles have done a good job getting him to make reads from the pocket. Cam has proven thus far that he'd prefer to sling it, and sprinkle in a few runs here and there.

So far this is true. However, time will tell. The Panthers won't be max protecting Cam on every single play forever. They just can't afford to do it, no team can. They're going to have to start opening things up earlier if they ever want to win games, not wait until they're down and the defense has gone into a semi-prevent. At that point, when the pressure is finally on, then we'll see how he reacts.

The Vick we see in Philly now, the one who looks for the pass first and second, and then runs is where I cap Cam's potential.

I can't imagine why you wouldn't start him, unless your other QB is Brady, Rodgers, Brees, Rivers, or a few others.
