Look, 1 game a carerr does not make.

Newton had a very, very good game, but did you see some of the break-downs in the Cardinals defense? It was like our quick snap play but only 4 or 5 times more. Ok, maybe not the quick snap, but it was broken coverage after broken coverage.

If anyone goes back and looks at the film, they'll see that all they need to do is bracket the #1 target (Gee, wonder who that is) and force Cam to check down to his 2nd and 3rd options.

Props to him for a record day by a rookie, but until he can do it against a defense that actually tries to cover his WR's, I'm not going to jump on any bandwagon. Let's see how he does once film gets out and defenses (good ones) start taking away his primary options.

Henne did play well.... He might have better numbers now that he has a better coordinator. Of course, it won't help that he has no running game - As highlighted by that awful playcall for a fade on 4th and inches from the goal-line.

I'd also mention that the Dolphins played from behind all night and Henne got a lot of yards in the 4th when they were 2 scores down - But I digress.....

I'm not saying Cam Newton will have an MVP or even an above average season. My only point was that he had many haters that said he couldn't read defense or pass against a D and that his only asset was his legs. For now, that assessment is in question.

When someone else "mentions" things about Arizona and their horrible horrible defense, we're called haters. That's the point. 400 yards or not, Henne sucks. A lot of things can go into a single game. To say this thread was premature is an understatement.

Fact of the matter is...MOST of the time, players stats are built against mediocre to crappy opponents. I mean, it's not often (week 1 aside) that teams go in and watch their QB rip up defenses like the Steelers, or Ravens, or whowever. When defenses lead the NFL in total defense and such..it's because they are holding guys down...even good players struggle. The bulk of anyone's stats are built upon the back of the mediocre teams, and the ability to not completely SUCK when facing a good team, or even rise above and do well in those few rare exceptions that those defenses give up a big day.

EDIT*I shouldn't say fact...It is my opinion that.....

I'm pretty sure Cam could put up numbers for 2 years and people would still say he sucks.... Just look at some of the opinions of Big Ben. There are still plenty of people around these boards that think he's a below-average qb that is completely a product of a good situation.

When a team has a better record when the QB is used less, what would that tell you about that QB?

Cam is a top 10 qb right now. He's a freakshow. Most of you are morons.

Ben isn't below average. That would mean he's in the bottom 15 of starting QB's.

However, he also isn't top 5 like many like to claim. Maybe 7 or 8.

Putting a rookie in the top 10 QB's of the NFL after ONE GAME is what Morons do. Not the other way around.

Just saying.

i know we should take everyones first game as showing how awesome of a career he would have.

Would you say a rookie QB throwing for 221 yards and 2 TD's in his debut would be a good QB?

Since no one cared, i might as well let you know that the QB i was referring to is Akili Smith

I'm not ready to make a prediction for Newton, but after just watching the NFL replay of that game, he was throwing darts. Very little to do with broken coverage.

426 yards impressive and 1 td

3 ints, not so much.

....

With that said, there are many QBs in this league already that will never pass for over 400 yards in one game.

I don't know what to say about it. top 10 QB... I don't know, tremendous athlete, yea, that's clear.

He had a good amount of rushing yards too...and he was playing against the Champs. Great game...still a rookie and he made mistakes, but he's clearly a freakshow.

Late in the 3rd or early 4th, team down 10, from the 3 yard line, he missed a wide open guy on the side of the end zone on 2nd and 3rd down.

3 interceptions.

400+ yards, but great, he passed 46 times. Though will say a 9+ ypc is good, though most were yac (I watched the game). Also, it should be noted, 12 of the 28 receptions went to RBs for 123 yards. At one point, it was 9 of his 18 receptions. A LOT of checkdowns.
