Former Jaguars QB Blake Bortles quietly enters retirement: 'I didn't tell anybody I retired'

Bortles last played significant time in 2018 while with the Jaguars. He ranks second in franchise history in various passing categories.

I remember arguing about him back at KFFL.

I kept on telling people he wasnt going to be good because if you took out his college throws (bubble screens and the like) that his accuracy just wasnt there.

And that is how I scouted QB's for the longest time. Looked at their accuracy, watched tape and saw how many throws that shouldnt count towards accuracy that they did in college but at the time didnt do in the NFL and just subtract that out.

But that has really changed. Now the screen game and super short passing game where any QB can make the throws are a huge part of the NFL passing game. And there really is a bit of an art to throwing the screens to boot.

Seems like forever ago but in January of 2018, his Jags were up 20-10 in the 4th quarter against the Patriots in the AFC Championship.

One quarter away from advancing to the Super Bowl.

I wish him luck with his inevitable podcast career.
