Texas Rangers 2025 Spring Training Thread

I have the same positive feeling I had two years ago about this Ranger team this year. Hope the results will be the same.

On behalf of all the players, Josh Jung presented this blanket to Jake Burger for his daughter, Penelope. All of the players signed it and Jung presented it to Burger in a team meeting just after Burger returned from Penelope's open-heart surgery.

I actually feel better about this team than I did before the 2023 season. The depth is incredible.

An MLB.,om article suggests the Rangers are the fifth most likely team to teach the World Series in 2025.

The Rangers had disappointing seasons at the plate from several players last season. I am including the following guys as having disappointing seasons either during to injury or just putting up worse numbers than before.

Evan Carter
Adolos Garcia
Jonah Heim
Josh Jung
Marcus Semien

Of these, how would you order them, as far as most likely to rebound? Here is how I would rank them.

Carter
Semien
Heim
Garcia

It is important that most of them rebound. Semien is probably most important because he is going to be playing a lot no matter how he hits.

I actually feel better about this team than I did before the 2023 season. The depth is incredible.

What I liked in 2023 was they signed a manager who managed multiple World Series championships and they were very aggressive in picking up known pitchers with the signing of Eovaldi, deGrom Gray. Heaney and Mahle along with Heim and Jung coming up.

For now, this is how I see the Rangers bullpen shaking out to begin the season

Jackson
Martin
Garcia
Webb
Church
Armstrong or Milner
Dunning
Houser

Houser's spot could be very tenuous. To begin the season, they need 2 long men. By the last week of April that may no longer be the case, and another reliever could take his spot. I don't think both Milner and Armstrong make the team.

Of course, over the next week, things could happen to change my mind. Barlow and/or Chargois could get hot. Or, the Rangers could make a trade facilitating the signing of David Robertson.

I am not banking on a trade. If Barlow becomes hot this may delay Teodo from coming up

Bennie - you have a different philosophy than the Rangers.
I bet Teodo is chomping to be added as a closer. Much more money with his cheap signing bonus

Frankie Francisco was the closer the year before CJ became a starting pitcher again.

Also, in CJ's case the Rangers allowed him to fail as a starting pitcher in the big leagues before converting him to a relief pitcher. That is the way it is supposed to work most of the time. That is when Luke Jackson became a reliever, after he failed as a starter. Some fail as early as AA or AAA, and some fail in the bigs.

Then why not Rocker or Leiter as the closer? They are both further along in their development than Teodo is.

I think we all have a different philosophy than the Rangers do about one issue or another, most of the time.

Bruce Bochy says that Emiliano Teodo is a long shot to make the #Rangers' Opening Day roster. He's definitely made an impression and could be an option this season, but team also wants to protect his health and let him continue to start.
