From Jon Morosi:

Juan Soto’s contract has no deferred money.

Opt-out after the 5th year.

From Ken Rosenthal:

Source confirms: Juan Soto in agreement with Mets on 15-year, $765M contract. Deal includes $75M signing bonus.
This is so out of control.

The Rangers should have been in on this. Maybe they were.

We should be able to afford 2 relievers at that kind of price.

From Bob Nightengale:

Wait, if Juan Soto’s 15-year, $765 million contract wasn’t stunning enough, it can actually be worth $805 million.
If the Mets want to void Soto’s opt out after the 2029 season, they must increase his annual salary from $51 million to $55 million beginning in 2030.

Is this finally the day the Rangers aign a closer, or at least an 8th inning guy?

Sasaki is officially posted. I believe his 45 day window ends January 23. Although there is a dead period between December 15 and January 15 when no international player can be signed. That gives an 8 day window to sign him beginning. January 15

Jeff Wilson mentions what some Japanese reporters are saying regarding Roki Sasaki at the Winter Meetings. He writes:

One reporter said she hadn’t heard the Rangers mentioned at all. Just the Padres and Dodgers. Another reporter said that the Padres have the edge because of Yu Darvish. Another said he heard that Sasaki will not be going to the Dodgers and that the Padres and Rangers have a chance.

That same reporter cautioned that Sasaki was pitching with a shoulder injury at the end of last season and could miss time at the start of the season. As such, Sasaki is aiming for a team that takes care of its pitchers and helps them develop. ...

Another reporter said the Rangers have a chance because of the roof. Sasaki wouldn’t have to pitch in the same heat that his pal and countryman, Darvish, did when with the Rangers, and that is appealing.

All four reporters were around for the Shohei Ohtani derby in 2017. They were surprised by his selection of the Angels, so they are open-minded when asked if the Rangers have a chance.

They might. Or they might not, depending on who is asked.

I’ll be surprised if they do anything. They usually don’t do anything during the winter meetings.

Owners and FO were overjoyed when he opted out and since then have expressed no interest in bringing him back according to sources i've heard. matter of fact none of the sources have linked us with any FA

Every local media person I have read says Eovaldi is the Rangers' top priority. Some national guys have said that as well.
