I like the idea of getting 2 SP.
1. FA
2. FA/Trade
3. Dunning
4. Hearn
5. Alexy
6. Otto
Winn and others..

There will be injuries, underperformance and guys like Alexy & Otto might be limited.

I see nothing wrong with getting 2 SP.
Alexy and Otto can mix up and pitch in relief as they find their way into the majors.
too early for 2. 1 this off-season and look at the young guys and then with a clearer outlook on them we can sign another next off-season or go with what we got

are you referring to specific seasons, or overall? Because I can think of several great BP pieces JD brought in.
As free agents, that he spent good money on?

Even Nathan was a bargain at the time.

Although, I can't really knock JD for not signing top-tier RP FA contracts. If the position was ignored altogether, then sure. But there's been many trades to bring in talent.

Yeah Yaz and a ring belong together. Hate to say it but I might root for the Giants.

If you want to knock JD on a trade I think a guy like Dempster is a better example

Yep, trades have brought in some, but a lot of times those are expensive in terms of prospects.

He has also had a history of converting minor league starters to relievers to make up for a shortage in the pen. I still wonder how the fortunes of our organization would have changed had we spent money on a free agent closer instead of rushing Feliz here. I would have liked to have seen what kind of starter Neftali could have become had he been allowed to stay in AAA and develop his secondary pitches. Instead he was brought up because we needed relievers and his stuff was already good enough for that.

I just hope in a year or two we will plan on the bullpen in the offseason instead of waiting until the middle of the season and trading for or converting guys to fill the pen.
