Texas Rangers 2021 - 2022 Offseason Thread

Baseball America unveiled their top 30 prospects for the Rangers on Tuesday. They had previously revealed the top 10.

They had a few names in there that other industry publications, including this one, did not have (Bayron Lora, Mitch Bratt, Yohel Pozo, Danyer Cueva). BA also failed to include a player who was ranked in the low teens across the industry, Davis Wendzel.

Wendzel has received rave reviews from club officials since he arrived at the Surprise Recreation Campus last month. Among the comments about him is that he’s moving better than ever and has his swing in the right place.

He’s also closer to the majors than he was a few weeks ago. The injury to Josh Jung has moved Wendzel closer to the major leagues, though he won’t be there to start the season.

This guy seems to me could be a continual MLB contributor. Not flashy but solid. Just want to see how he can hit MLB pitching

Here's my understanding of where things are:

Owners have (eventually) moved some numbers towards the player side. Still significantly close to the owner's starting point, but far enough that the players should consider it a moral victory and accept. Hang up right now is International Draft, which seems to be a hill the owners are willing to die on. Players seem resistant because prominent Latin players are against the change.

MLB has extended yesterday's deadline to today. If a deal is reached today, we get 162 games. If not, the next 2 series are canceled, and none of the games will be made up.

Jeff Wilson reports that both Bayron Lora and Alex Speas are still at home attending to personal issues.

He says the Rangers understand and that the "Rangers believe a player can’t be his best on the field without his personal life in order." There was one prospect that did that a couple of different times over the last 3 years or so, and he found himself being traded away a few months ago in a trade where it seemed he was almost given away. That was Hans Crouse. That trade never made sense, but it did make me wonder if the front office had held a grudge against him due to him having to take care of personal matters more than once.

This draft seems to difficult to fix in a day. It seems like an afterthought
