Catcher, at least one OF position maybe 2 and 1B...

FanGraphs released their 2022 projected standings. After committing half a billion dollars on free agents, where do the Texas Rangers stand?

"According to FanGraphs' 2022 projected standings, the Rangers will finish at the bottom of the American League West division for the third consecutive season with a record of 73-89. That's a 13-win improvement from last season, and it's not outlandish to think it could be a bit better than that. Even FanGraphs' senior writer Dan Szymborski noted it, but the ZiPS projection system confirmed a still significant hole in the Rangers roster."

It is impossible to make a quality guess about what the record should be until the rest of the offseason is complete, both from the Rangers standpoint and from their competition's standpoint.

While they may have improved the offense in the off season the pitching is going to be an issue. It will take some more time for development in that area.

I have to say I admire how Texas went about its business in the last nine months: It traded a bunch of players on expiring contracts for prospects, then turned around and spent a whole boatload of money to replace those major leaguers and then some. Now the system is reloaded and the major-league team is competitive, if not outright contending, with help on the way. It is surprising to see a Texas top 10 that lacks any international free agents the Rangers signed themselves – I don’t think that’s been the case since I started these rankings.

They need to let negotiators negotiate and get rid of the hot heads. The shouters and the cursers should be shown the door and not allowed back in. Be professional and civil.

Nick Hundley is not related to Todd Hundley or Todd's father, Randy Hundley. They were all catchers though.

Surveying the market:

Probably not. The future, until health potentially determines otherwise, is Sam Huff. No reason for long-term investment at the position right now. Old friend and local resident Robinson Chirinos is a free agent who might be worth a non-roster invite look-see. ...

On the farm: Sam Huff, who just turned 24, is going to play in the majors eventually. The question is whether it will be at catcher. Besides being a larger-than-normal catcher (6-5), he’s had knee issues that led to surgery in 2021. He did not get in a game behind the plate the entire year.

What it means: Catching may be among the current roster’s biggest weaknesses, but fixing it simply isn’t a huge priority with Huff waiting in the wings and no game-changers out there on the market. It’s status quo for now.

Apparently, if your name is Hundley and you play professional baseball, you have to be a catcher. Baseball Reference lists four men named Hundley. They were all catchers.
