I wouldn’t mind Castellanos on a 5 year $95 million. I would front load it a bit while our payroll is super low. $25 mil a year the first 2 years and then $15 a year the last 3 years. I would throw in a 6th year team option for $18 mil or a buyout. Just in case he’s still raking and we’re doing well
I would front load most long term contracts we try to sign this off-season. Would make sense.

I’m so happy the off season is about to begin. My favorite time of the year.

If we can get a few bats and a couple of pitchers I’ll be very happy.

I would go after Castellanos for DH/RF
Joc Pederson/Rosario to platoon vs RHP and promote Blain Crim to play LF vs LHP
Let Calhoun/Peters platoon
Promote Jung for 3B
Let Ibanez be the consensus 2B.
Sign one of the SS
Trade IKF, Leody, Yerry Rodriguez, Yonny Hernandez, Solak, Howard, Smith etc to acquire a C and a SP.

Vs RHP
C-MJ Melendez, Joey Bart, Gabriel Moreno, Austin Nola, Austin Allen, Logan O’Hoppe
1B- Nate Lowe
2B- Ibanez
3B- Jung
SS- Correa, Story or Seager
LF- Calhoun
CF- Garcia/Pederson
RF- Garcia/Pederson
DH- Castellanos

Bench- Yonny SS,2B, 3B- DJ Peters-OF, Blain Crim-LF, 3B-1B , Huff- C-1B- DH

Vs LHP
C- same
1B- Nate Lowe
2B- Ibanez
3B- Jung
SS- same
LF- Crim
CF- DJ Peters
RF- Adolis
DH- Castellanos

SP
1. Stroman, Syndergaard, etc FA pitcher
2. SP trade- Brewers, Rays or Marlins etc.
3. Dunning
4. Hearn
5. Alexy
6. Otto
7. King
8. Wes Anderson
Winn, etc..

I’m thinking 4-5 bats (5 if we add 2 platoon partners instead of 1 stud) and 2 SP.
I would trade for one of those bats (catcher) and one of those arms. That would relieve some of the depth/clogs.
There are plenty of question marks on offense and starting rotation to where it makes sense.

Come on man. No one around me understands baseball enough or is interested enough to even have a semi deep conversation about this stuff.
That’s why I come here haha

as far as SPitchers are concerned i expect us to see the following during the season

Hearn
Dunning
Allard
Alexy
Oto
Winn
Latz
Y. Rodriquez
Palumbo
King(after a stint on the 60)

so i see room for 1 Quality FA SP

Stroman, Syndergaard, Gausman, Robbie Ray, Steven Matz.. etc from the FA market.

Then trade for a SP. there are a few teams with good SP depth. Like the Brewers and Marlins. There are other fits as well.

I agree with this to an extent.
I feel we still have too much inexperience and also would think some of our current depth would be traded for a catcher and another SP thus eliminating too much of a log jam.

Yeah I hope Crim is here soon. I definitely think he’s about ready. I’m a big fan of his.

I don’t think Allard is quite in the same realm any more.
Wouldn’t be opposed to a somewhat 6 man rotation to take it easy on the 5th and 6th SP. (Alexy & Otto)
Winn would be the first one up in the event of an injury or an underperformance.
We will most likely go through 9-12 SP next year.. just like every other year and just like most teams. I’m all for Depth.

I think eventually we will see 3 position players acquired via FA/trade, 1 starting pitcher and 2 or 3 relief pitchers via FA or trade. I am thinking 4 FA and 2 trades. It won't all happen this offseason though. 2 or 3 acquisitions this offseason. 2 or 3 acquisitions next offseason and the remainder during the 2023 or 2024 season at the deadline.

If we’re not trading Jung, Winn or Leiter and it’s improving our MLB roster with players who will
Be on the team 3-6 years I’m not too worried about it. Kind of moot at that point.

i've been pushing for a 6-man rotation with A FA SP, Hearn, Dunning, Allard or Latz and Alexy/Otto (as Opener/Middleman switching each alternating game).
think Allard would probably get the nod out of ST but if his production continues like it has been this season that Latz would move into the rotation.

we aren't going to be a competitive team (playoff team) next season and we've got the depth to be able see us thru the season.

Whether you like it or not the team can only afford so many "veteran" players so you're going to have to depend on younguns to fill out the roster and get you over the top. And you better make sure your veterans contracts are expiring when it comes time to resign your younguns you want to keep...

I'm guessing the teams max is around the $180M range if they manage to fill the stadium every day/night...
