That's what happens when you don't let the computers use margin of victory as an input.

Colley-Matrix is just one of the 6 computer polls that factors in SOS and not margin of victory. Beating BYU must have given Texas a lot of points or unicorn aura dust or whatever the poll uses to rank teams.

Small sample size and not enough data points. These polls will get more accurate later in the season.

That computer must be heavily invested in Dizznay.

Haha. I can imagine ESPN calling Texas number one as a result of this and using this poll for their official rankings until Texas drops.

And in related news, Texas A&M just applied to leave the BCS Computer ranking system

As a Texas fan, even I can't accept the horns as number 1.

I agree. It should be included, but weighted less heavily than SoS.

The two work together. You either get points in the BCS by squeaking by good opponents, or you get credit for demolishing weaker competition like you're supposed to. If you have a weak opponent and win by 3, you get hammered.

Ideally it would just be a power ranking with an offense and defense components based on yards/points and who a team played, and the actual outcomes of games wouldn't be factored in. The human polls can deal with who wins and losses, and the context thereof. The computers are best at compiling hard data, and comparing it.

No one would ever go for it, because it has the potential of giving results we aren't used to seeing, but mathematically it would be the most accurate of "who is the best", it's the same way they get opening point spreads for football games.
