Which do you think? Mediocre training staffs or just misfortune?

Red Wings are always well-conditioned, but that didn't stop them from suffering injuries to 40% of the team a couple of years ago.

It's a combination of a few different things. There is no one reason for it.

I think it is a combination of things and I do think that good conditioning can help avoid some injuries but if I had to chose one, I would pick bad luck.

I Think A bigger part of it is consistently blocking pucks over a lot of games, the constant bump and grinds on the fore check Take a real toll on the joints, people who don't play don't realize that. Constant twisting with other players slamming into you torques on all sorts of body parts. Conditioning can only help so much...

Jackets had a few guys at once, and only one was conditioning, most was just bad luck and occupational hazard.

Huselius - ripped a muscle in his weak, girlie chest doing weights.
Boll - broke his hand on someone's head
Dekanich - Fell awkwardly in practice and the first day back took a puck to the throat
Sandford - Common goalie issue that's plagued the guy. The groin.
Carter - Took a shot off the foot, which means he actually got in front of a shot
Martinek - I don't remember what he did, but it probably involved a door frame and alcohol.
Wisniewski - Lost a ton of time after Shanabanning his Clutterbuck. Gruesome injury.

Franzen, Zetterberg, Datsyuk, and Kronwall have been relatively healthy up to this point....soooo, can we all shut the hell up and pretend this conversation never happened? Geez, this might end up worse than WingedWheelie blowing one of Jimmy's shutouts by jinxing it!...

*clears throat* Okay, with certain injuries it's luck. Obviously you can't TRAIN yourself to avoid a concussion, except by perhaps not being a thorn in the other teams side and opening yourself up to more contact *stares at Kris Letang*. That said, many other injuries that are more along the lines of muscular injuries (pulls/tears/tendon injuries) can CERTAINLY be related to a poor training staff. A lot of this falls on the head of the strength and conditioning coach. Example, if your team has a trend of ACL tears, it's likely that those players had a muscular imbalance between their quads and hamstrings, just a predisposing factor. However, most ligamentous damage is unavoidable. One guy goes awkwardly into the boards and gets a high ankle sprain, while the next guy gets up like it's nothing...just depends on genetic makeup and how taught or loose your ligaments are. Now you can work on strengthening associated muscles to help soften the blow, but it's still a long shot at preventing freak accidents.

Holy crap, I actually have about the same gut as Welly, 'cept I'm probably double his age and I'm not playing pro sports.
