Not a lot of good left-handed Canadian defensemen.

Would take either over Hamhands.

Oh yeah I'm not saying that Hamhuis would be my choice either, I'm just saying that it seems significantly less crazy when you look at it in that context.

I dont see why they need to take 4 lefties and 4 righties on d ... as long as they can find a right shooting dman who can be versatile ... and if theyre taking any flames ... id go Giordano over Russell

/Reto Berra made it for Team Suisse, Sven did not.

I guess when you look at those available who shoot left Hamhuis is the best option ... good skater ... good first pass ... just dont play him 30 minutes and all should be ok

I have no problems with Hamhuis, but not at the expense of leaving a guy like PK Subban off the team.

Right, but whether or not that matters I guess depends on whether or not you're naming the team that you would pick or naming the team that they're likely to pick. It seems pretty likely from comments that they're going to take an equal number of each and play everyone on their strong side.

If they dont take Subban theyre idiots ... the same stuff people are saying about him, they were saying about Doughty for the 2010 team ... and look how that turned out ... sure he missed the team bus for the gold medal game lol ... but he ended up playing big minutes

I was merely trying to illustrate that there are reliable, smart, young lefty D men.

I don't want Murray on the team. Jackets are thin enough and to have the best D-man on the team go down with injury in a tourney that isn't related to the reg season? I'd go ballistic.

I don't want Bob to go either, but there's pretty much no way he won't. Him and Tyutin will go, possibly Anisimov, although he has played like crap until last week. Gaborik is saying publicly that he is working to get back in time to play.

Me too (and Russell is still recovering from a MCL knee spain (I hear he's back on ice skating solo today in Denver).

I just saw that. Unreal.

Well, I'm sure they will say that Sven is not having a good season (otherwise he'd still be playing with the Flames in the NHL), but methinks the Swiss Hockey Federation (or whatever they are called) prefer players who play in the Swiss league (or players who have played in that league in the past).

Hey, but he's fluent in four languages (English, French, German, and Italian), so he'll be great for Olympic interviews.

Good, I would rather he took the two weeks off and rested for the stretch run. I know he's a well conditioned pro athlete and all but let's be honest, he's no Cammi Granato...

heard this morn he already has a flight booked for Cabo Wabo

Somebody made the point yesterday that Team Canada might not have the reigning Art Ross winner (St. Louis) and the assists leader (little joey) on the Sochi squad.

saraorlesky: Stamkos was on ice about 30min today. Still experiences some pain skating and expects to for awhile, but says it wasn't too bad.

How do you think the Lightning will feel if Stamkos basically goes right into Olympic play after the injury? Obviously it's a little closer to home with Yzerman being his boss in both rights...but man, wouldn't that be a bit worrisome?
