The important thing is it seems like there is a lot more talent on the team than before. Everyone can't have a spot but it sure is nice to see them competing hard. Right now it is all practice. Games don't lie.

we have heard a multitude of times how players perform mystifying feats in TC only to be turds in games and the converse as well

its good to have good camps but you still have to do it in games

  • If Steven Sims keeps performing the way he is right now, he's going to be hard to let go. Yes, Sims really came up short in 2020 in Rivera's first season, but he's currently riding a streak of strong outings, and the coach explained Wednesday that what happens in camp can change his perception of someone. Early on, Fitzpatrick picked Sims out as he was running up the seam, and Sims was able to grab the throw over Jimmy Moreland and in front of Deshazor Everett. If Rivera truly goes with who's playing the best — instead of adding in other factors like whom he drafted, which is often a part of roster decisions — there's a real chance Sims sticks around for September and beyond (should he maintain the level he's at).

  • Special teams boss Nate Kaczor ripped into William Bradley-King for slowly jogging into position during a kick return drill, which was a departure from Kaczor's usual, positive tact. That prompted offensive line coach John Matsko to remind his charges, who were kneeling on the sideline, that they can "learn from other's mistakes." These assistants are always teaching, and nothing gets by them.

  • A few, um, imaginative people on the Internet believe that Rivera has his own version of Taysom Hill in Steven Montez, but let's chill out with that. On a couple of throws a day, Montez looks capable, but he throws a wobbly, floating spiral anytime he has to go deep, and he also misses a host of inane attempts. He does possess good size for the position and has produced a few pro-ish runs in camp, but he's not ready to compete on Sundays at this level yet. With more development, that could change, but it'd have to be a lot more development.
what you have in montez

It looks like Sims is having a good camp. Its going to be interesting if they keep him and make him return and let Carter go or the other way around.

You have to earn opportunity. If carter is better then Harmon , AGG , Franklin Wright in our offense and he wins the return job then he is on the team .
But you don’t cut better players for an avg returner who is only a returner .
this hole debate about carter comes down to can he contribute on offense
Agreed!

If Sims didn’t have problems last season, they wouldn’t have brought in competition. That is what Carter is. Carter is not great. He is a middle of the pack returner. There is a reason he played for 2 teams in 2018 and 2 teams in 2020.

Lets compare last season…
Deandre Carter- 1 catch for 8 yards
Steven Sims- 27 catches for 265 yards

Deandre Carter- KR average 20.8 yards with 0 TDs
Steven Sims wasnt really used as a KR last season. Prior season he averaged 25.6 with a TD.

Deandre Carter- PR average of 8.4 with 0 TDS.
Steven Sims- PR average of 6.7.

Give me your 6Wr;s that make the team.

Ok. If that is the case do Harmon, Agg, and Carter go to the PS and get protected? I got Carter over Sims. I have Agg and Harmon to the PS with protection. Steve Sims as the punt returner frightens me.

Harmon and AGG do.

Sims PR fumbles 4 in 30...13.3%

Carter fumbles 7 in 63…11.1%

There is not much difference. Carter last season fumbled 2 in 15 attempts. Sims was 4 in 24.
