Heard the Yankees are willing to forget about their budget for Tanaka, they really really need him.

Yanks could use the entire Golden Eagles pitching staff.

I wonder if the Rangers will go after him and whether already having Darvish on board might make them more attractive to Tanaka. Should be interesting to see which team lands him.

Is Tanaka still able to pick between the three top teams? I know his current team are locked at 20 million, I was wondering if they made a deal that will pay his team from his salary and that is why they are posting him.

Yankees are odds-on favorites to overwhelm him...from what I've read, nothing is gonna stop Cashman from doing this. I wonder how much it will take?

Think the Dodgers and Redsox stand a good chance at signing him as well.

I expect quite a bidding war to ensue. Probably six or more teams are prepared to pay the $20 million posting fee on top of a long-term contract

After signing Choo, I doubt they go hard after him.

I think if he waited a year, the Red Sox would be more in it. But they are full at pitching and really don't have the spot for him.

I think the Dodgers, Diamond Backs, Cubs, and Yankees are the top 4 to land him. The Red Sox in it will probably just be to drive the price up on the Yankees.

He will probably get more than Darvish, which is scary. Always a question mark with these pitchers coming over and how they will adjust. But somebody will pay for him and pay big time.

Choo and Fielder definitely increaed the payroll, but Texas ownership has shown a strong commitment in the past to fielding the strongest possible team. I definitely expect the Rangers to go hard after Tanaka. Having him and Darvish on the squad would presumably increase the value of the naming rights to their park, which are currently unsold, quite a bit.

He'll definitely get more than Darvish, just because now there is competition to sign him. That money isn't going to Japan, its going to him and will count with the luxury tax.

He'll cost like $16 mil per year probably, for a unproven MLB pitcher. That will be tough to handle for some of these teams, the Yankees are pretty desperate and have to take this gamble and can take the hit if he fails.

Him and Darvish were pretty close to each other in how dominant they were in Japan. Dice K wasn't as good as those 2.

I don't see him as a strikeout pitcher like Darvish, but I think he'll be very good. Like at the very least a #2-3 SP.

He could end up "getting more" than Darvish without the acquiring team spending as much on him as TX spent on Darvish, since the posting fee is more than $31 million less for Tanaka than it was for Darvish.

idk from what I heard if the Rangers didn't sign Choo they would be in on it, but since they got Choo they are out. I haven't heard anything about the Rangers going after Tanaka now that they got Choo.

I think a lot of teams will be in on Tanaka, including the Rangers. Some will be in it for real, others may be in it just to jack up the price to fuck the Yankees over.

I expect Tanaka will get the biggest pitching contract in the history of baseball, until Kershaw's extension gets done anyway.

I think you may be right, and I think it will be the Yankees.
