Needs: DE, LB, DB
Defensive End
1. Porter Gustin (4-Star) (Salem, UT) - Gustin is listed as a LB but Nebraska would be recruiting him as a DE. He's one of the highest rated DEs on the board for the Huskers and someone they are definitely trying to get in for a visit. Gustin will be a very difficult pull from Utah as USC and other PAC-12 schools come in on the hunt. However, if Nebraska can somehow stay in the game long enought to get a visit there might be some fire to the smoke here. Nebraska visited him in school a few weeks ago.
2. Hale Hentges (4-Star) (Jefferson City, MO) - Hentges has been a name high on Nebraska's board since early in the recruiting process. Nebraska spends a lot of time around Missouri recruiting linemen (Carlos and Khalil Davis) and they would like Hentges as a DE as well. Many schools are recruiting Hentges as a TE but Nebraska would like him on the defensive side of the ball if they could convince him to do so. Hentges will be a tough pull out of Missouri as the home state Tigers are in on him as well as OSU. The Huskers need to secure another visit, possibly to BRW, for us to feel comfortable here.
3. Joe Anderson (4-Star) Reserve, LA) - With Nebraska's recent success in the Louisiana area Anderson is a player to keep an eye on. Nebraska offered him just a month ago but have a good relationship with him nonetheless. LSU has offered him but he is not their first choice at DE, Nebraska would take him regardless. He's played the recruiting game fairly close to the vest thus far and it's had to know exactly where he stands. A name to keep an eye on for sure, especially if he visits.
4. Landis Durham (3-Star) (Plano, TX) - Durham is a hybrid LB/DE and would fit well in the mold of the speed rushers Nebraska's been lookin for off of the edge. Durham's recruitment has blown up of late with offers from Texas A&M, Baylor and Oregon coming in. Nebraska would need to get Durham up for a visit to have a real shot at landing him.
5. Jamie Gordinier (3-Star) (Red Bank, NJ) - Gordinier has been quietly putting together an impressive recruitment. He has 18 offers currently and more keep roling in. The 6'4" 230 lb DE is a true DE and likes Nebraska, though he admitedly is more of an ACC type guy. Nebraska will need to keep on him but his recruitment will not end soon.
Other names of note: Arden Key, CeCe Jefferson, Jason Stowbridge, Marques Ford
Linebacker
1. Cameron Townsend (4-Star) (Missouri City, TX) - Townsend visited for the Spring Game and has a very good relationship with Ross Els. He likes Texas but is weary of the new coaching staff and how they will do so he's keeping his options open for now. Nebraska would love to get him up for BRW but since he's already unofficially visited once that's a bit of a long shot. Nebraska's best hope is that Townsend's recruitment goes into the season and that Texas lays a bit of an egg their first year under Charlie Strong. That happens and Nebraska likely becomes the favorite for the Texas prospect.
2. DJ Beavers (3-Star) (Encino, CA) - Beavers has ties to Nebraska and has already visited for the Spring Game but he's also an Oregon State legacy player. Right now Oregon State has yet to offer him and so Nebraska could capitalize on that if they can convince Beavers to jump on board soon. So long as Oregon or Oregon State do not offer Nebraska seems to be in the driver's seat here. However if they do offer (and chances are they will) it will be a battle for Nebraska. One that they can win but much more so than if they do not offer.
3. Richard Moore (3-Star) (Cedar Hill, TX) - Moore is a good player with a ton of upside at the LB position but is definitely a Texas prospect. It seems like Baylor and Texas A&M are the teams to beat for now but he has said that he intends to visit Nebraska for BRW and we all know that can change a lot. Moore would need to put on some weight at the next level so he's not a ready made player but development can be taught, athleticism likely cannot and he has plenty of that. File this one under unlikely until after BRW though.
Other names of note: Ricky DeBerry, Quarte Sapp, Sh'mar Kilby-Lane
Defensive Back
1. PJ Mbanasor (4-Star CB) (Pflugerville, TX) - Mbanasor is a former teammate of 2014 commit Trai Mosely and Mosely is waisting no time recruiting him as he has already tried to convince him to come up for BRW. Nabbing Mbanasor out of Texas would be huge and add to an already stacked DB class for 2015. Oklahoma and Texas are likely the two teams to look out for here with Notre Dame and Texas A&M in the wings. It will be a very tough pull but when you have a kid's former teammate on your team that can help immensely. Definitely a name to keep an eye on.
2. Deshawn Raymond (3-Star CB) (Metairie, LA) - Nebraska continues to scour Louisiana to find quality athletes in the secondary and the 6'0" Raymond is no exception. He has plenty of big time offers and very good athleticism for his position. If Nebraska can't nab Mbanasor Raymond is like 2b on the list for the final CB in this class.
3. Marquise Doherty (4-Star S) (Kansas City, MO) - Doherty has been a bit quiet on the recruiting trail of late but he was one of Nebraska's first Safety offers for the 2015 class. Doherty also has the build to drop down into a weak-side LB role if need be as well with his size and athletecism. Iowa seems to be one of the only other players here as Nebraska hope to get him up for BRW. If Nebraska could nab Mbanasor at CB, they would likely take Doherty (or Dale) at LB/S and see how things shake out.
4. Hunter Dale (3-Star S) (New Orleans, LA) - Dale is pretty much a Doherty clone in that he has the ability to play safety or slide down in the OLB if need be. Nebraska has been in on Dale for quite some time now and Husker commits from New Orleans (Glenn Irons, Jaevon Walton and Tolbert) have been on him to commit to Nebraska for a while. Dale is a hard kid to read as he seems excited about multiple schools but Nebraska is right up there with them all. A tweet a few weeks ago from Eric Lee stated that Dale was leaning to NU right now as well. Nebraska would take Dale and another CB but would not likely take Dale and Doherty together.
5. Kenneth McGruder (3-Star DB) (Houston, TX) - McGruder just landed a Nebraska offer and really gushed about it. He's a hybrid Safety/CB that could probably translate to either at the next level. He has the size that Nebraska wants in their corners and more than enough athleticism to be dangerous at either position. McGruder is an interesting athlete that you would hate to turn away but, given numbers, Nebraska might not have a choice if one or two of the above commit before McGruder.
Other names to note: Brandon Scott
Defensive Tackle
1. Neville Gallimore (4-Star) (St. Catherines, ON) - In 2013 Nebraska went to Canada and nabbed big OT David Knevel and Nebraska is back in Canada in 2015 looking at a big DT in Neville Gallimore. Nebraska already has two DTs in this class but Carlos Davis could easily transition to a SDE for this class. Neville has freakish athleticism for a 6'3" 300 lb DT (runs a 4.7 forty) which is show cased in his highlights as he rushes QBs from a 2-point stance quite often. Gallimore is getting attention from Oklahoma, Alabama, Notre Dame, Miami, Michigan State and many more. He has 23 offers already, 20 of which come from BCS level schools. Gallimore doesn't talk much but it sounds like Nebraska has a real chance here. Oklahoma and Notre Dame seem to be the main competition.
Will be back with the offense edition in the next few days.
