I do not agree, but I get that you would have preffered to keep the number one pick
This should've been treated like a preseason game. Showcase the young kids. Try a few things on offense and defense that have little chance of working but solidify the thought process. Don't get injured. Move onto the season/next season while maintaining that lucrative #1 pick.

Seriously, they needed to try some surprising plays like seeing how well Milton could execute a quick kick on first down.

So no pro athlete will sign with NE? I think it depends on the player. If you're not in the game, feel secure in not losing your roster spot, and have a chance at improving your team greatly by a loss. I say they certainly think about. Losing seasons suck a lot worse than one game.

For those of you who have never played the game, coached the game or been a parent of a son who's played the game, losing, regardless of the reward, is never acceptable. I coached some of the worst teams ever and not once, never, did I want to lose or see the faces of my players after losing. Having one win is a thousand times better than no wins at all. My opinion is that every Patriot player on that field wanted to win and no one gave a rat's shit about blowing the #1 pick in the draft. If anything, shoving it up Mayo, Van Pelt and Covington's collect asses, might have been really satisfying, since many of them know that they don't have a job next year right now. 4-13 is much better than 3-14.

@NWPATSFAN, Why don't you tell us how you really feel??

I guess you've never played, coached or been a father in the stands.

Yeah ok, I've played many sports. Some you may not even have heard of. Decent but never a star. I was on a team that took 3 state title. I've coached and officiated as well. I took on some of the toughest challenges in the military. I hate losing. Even at checkers against a nephew or niece.

This is a different era, and different culture. There is also a huge difference between winning and losing at the recreational, middle school, college and the pro level. For the most part pros get paid to win. Not shit the bed for 13 games and get all happy because they won a meaningless game that set the franchise back.

How quickly so many of you forget, how this team looked lethargic for so many games. You were the same group on here bitching about it.

That's how I feel. Yeah, I'm pissed at the entire organization.

Failure in any sports organization doesn't happen instantly, it starts are the top and eventually eats into the gut where it collapses on itself.

This failure started in 2020 when BB convinced RK that letting Brady leave was the best thing for the "TEAM".

Problem #1 was that BB did not have a plan in place to compensate.

Cam Newton, Mac Jones and thin 2024 with Maye.

Problem #2 was that BB had never had to draft for 'need'. He found that was a weakness within himself that he didn't have an answer for.

Three horrible drafts in a row.

Problem #3 was that Kraft had allowed BB to be GM, HC, President of Personnel and Chief Architect.

Too many hats and only one of them fit until he didn't have the cane to lean on that TB12 provided.

Problem #4 was that Kraft thought he had an answer to BB's weaknesses internally.

Mayo had been around the Patriots for twenty years and had never seen BB's weaknesses or learned from them.

Problem #5 Kraft has now painted himself into a corner.

Firing Mayo might have solved a piece of #4, but now #1,#2 and #3 still need to be addressed. Will Kraft fall victim to #4 and hire Mike Vrabel? Or will he and Johnathan and Wolfe wake up, smell the coffee and hire Ben Johnson ir someone that's never had as much as a whiff of Foxboro?

Should I have posted this in "GIMME FIVE?"

This failure started in 2020 when BB convinced RK that letting Brady leave was the best thing for the "TEAM".
Brady had the second year of a 2 year $70 million contract. BB made him another offer for the second year, which Brady never opened. He brought it to Kraft's house and left it unopened. BB did not "Convince" Kraft it was OK for Brady to leave.
Problem #1 was that BB did not have a plan in place to compensate.
Every year BB had a back up plan. From Hoyer to Cassell, Mallett to Garoppolo and even Brissett. Brady even said he got complacent and Jimmy G lit a fire under him which started the second SB run. And Brady left as soon as there wasn't a good back up. As soon as BB put all his eggs in that basket. As soon as there wasn't any cap space do to dead money on all the free agents Bill brought in to win all those SB's, that's when Brady left.
Bill said it many times. He mortgaged the future to win one more SB and ended up with three more. Then the future came calling. And Kraft was perfectly OK with it. Until the Future came calling.

Because Kraft is the ultimate Fan.
But a typical spoiled New England Fan.

Re-mortgaging the house to the point of foreclosure is not a plan.

There must have been something that Kraft, BB or even the bean counter """COULD""" have done to prevent the hemorrhaging. Those last three super bowl wins all happened between 2014 and 2019. Failure to recognize the shortcomings five years down the road and allowing them to happen isn't planning, it's suicide. If what you say is true, then Kraft should box up his six Lombardis and sell the team because he has zero comcept of how to operate a franchise in 2020 and beyond.

So what you're saying is that Brady was the Genie in the Lamp. Kraft, BB or anybody could have looked west and saw all of the shenanigans that the Chiefs have pulled with cap space and negotiating all of the curves and rocks and yet have been a force since before Brady left. Piss poor management of a team and finances have created a known or foreseen collapse?? If true, the Patriots will be back to 1960 through 2000 and will never see another playoff game until 2045 or 2050. It'll be a miracle if I live to be 95 or 100.

He was paid to win Super Bowls and put together a team that could. That was his job and he was the most successful at it.
Until Kraft started thinking about how to get into the HOF.
Not spending a dime on home improvements and the house falls to tatters. Which is where we are at now. No one wants to live in a rundown shack while the landlord just gets richer.

Boom.

Opportunistic.

What? Losing in the wildcard round every year...if they made the playoffs...until Mahommes came along?

I've been saying this is a possibility.

You can be pissed off that they spent money they didn't have and won 3 more SB's but are not winning still, or you can be glad they had the greatest run in sports history.

I never thought they would win one Super Bowl. There was a LOT of gravy after 2001. Gravy on my ice cream.

With all due respect - have you ever coached a game where a kid could get a scholarship by losing? And I don't mean the context of cheating.

There was no value to win other than some individual stat wins, which in this case wasn't good team play.

Where exactly did they spend the money? They had a cap, they stayed within it.

Actually I have. Had a QB who was trying to decide between three colleges and two OL who were going somewhere free. We were in the playoffs and gave every kid on the squad a chance to play in our final game. We lost on an incredible 40 yard FG as te clock ticked away. 24-21. We lost inthe first round of the playoffs and never pulled a starter.

I meant they would only get the scholarship if they lost. In professional sports and professional anything - you participate to add value for your boss. Like every profession, you build value for yourself too.... But first you do what in the boss' best interest.

In the legal world it's referred to as a fiduciary responsibility. Of course this is a gray area with regard to the topic we are discussing.
