"Coach So and So won with Coach Such and Such's recruits"
Haven't we seen this play out many, many times? One coach is at a school for 3-5 years, preaches patience, says "let me get my type of player in here and we'll be great," dramatic turnaround does not materialize, new coach is hired, he goes out and wins 10 or more games based on sheer enthusiasm and the rest of the new conference's lack of familiarity with his style.
Then, new coach gets worse, record wise, for the next 3 years, people start to say, "he won with the last coach's players," new coach says, "wait, just let me get MY type of player in here, and we'll be great again..."
Rinse, repeat.
This doesn't exactly apply to Pelini/Nebraska, because he won the same amount of games every year, but it definitely applies to Hoke, and could apply to Muschamp, probably applies to Les Miles, Notre Damers have applied it to almost every coach since Lou Holthz left
