IMO...this was almost scripted. Golden is the perfect segway S...the money is right...3yrs/$5 mil...I have to imagine he got $3 mil G$. . He takes over the starting SS role, bridging the gap for a likely '16 draft pick to be ready by '17 or '18.

May not make the splash play, but makes the plays you're supposed to make routinely.

Do we keep Boykin???? do you think???

It is a smart move, and a necessity. Golden may not be a stalwart by any means, but like ATL said, he's going to make the plays that he's supposed to. He played well in his 2-3 starts. Here's a link to some tape:
Can Robert Golden be the Steelers next full-time starter at safety?
He's been highly praised for his work ethic, heart & grit. He's a great lockerroom guy. If they draft a safety that can take over day 1 (not likely) in the SS role, then Golden can be a great rotational guy. Not to mention he has been the top 2-3 rated special teams player for 2 years straight. He's a great contributor to whatever they need him to do.

I hope so. But they need to resign Willie Gay first. Since they didn't eagerly pursue Brice McCain outside of showing interest by contacting his agent, I'm guessing that is the plan. The real question is, will Boykin be open to returning? He got treated like an outcast for the better part of the season. He wants to be treated like a CB1 or CB2, and he was a CB4 here until the latter part of the season. He seems to be in good spirits about it though, judging by his social media. He was quoted saying things like "it was a great learning year" & "appreciated everything they did for me", etc etc. Hopefully they can hammer out Gay's deal and then throw an offer at Boykin before its too late.
