The Pittsburgh Steelers demoted Jacoby Jones, taking away his return duties.

On Tuesday, the team's updated depth chart listed Jones as the backup kick returner and third-string punt returner.

(Who knew third-string punt returner was a thing? Where do we sign up for that gig?)

Markus Wheaton takes over Jones spot atop the kick returner depth chart and as the backup punt returner to Antonio Brown.

"I think the depth chart clearly reflects that he's a backup this week," coach Mike Tomlin told reporters Tuesday. "We'll proceed with that in mind as we prepare. We'll get Markus Wheaton ready to return kicks and Antonio Brown and Markus Wheaton as punt returners and we'll see where that takes us."

Jones was benched in Sunday night's blowout win over the Indianapolis Colts after he fumbled twice in the first half.

The demotion could be a prelude to the Steelers jettisoning Jones. The once-dynamic kick returner has been abysmal this season. The San Diego Chargers previously cut him after five games averaging -0.8 punt return yards.

WTF??? That sounds like a GREAT use of a roster spot... smh

Like the article said, I pray that this is just a prelude... I'm hoping they are just shopping at the moment, sifting through the practice squads for talent.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said on his 93.7 The Fan show Tuesday he “didn’t buy” that Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict was pushed into his legs during Sunday’s game, and that Burfict was trying to injure him.

“I don’t buy that he was pushed,” Roethlisberger said on the air. “He definitely was diving in low and going for my legs. It’s tough. I am just glad I didn’t get hurt.”

Replays of the hit show Burfict clearly diving low at Roethlisberger, something that should draw a 15-yard penalty and a fine from the league. No flag was thrown on the play. It’s at least the second time this season Roethlisberger was hit low without consequence from the league. Rams defensive back Mark Barron hit Roethlisberger on the left knee after lunging for him from the ground. It sidelined Roethlisberger for four games.

It’s unclear how it wasn’t seen. Roethlisberger said at first he asked the official who hit him low, but Burfict told him he was blocked into him. The official indicated to Roethlisberger that’s what happened, according to the Steelers’ quarterback.

The NFL was quick to remove all Vines of the play not long after many of them went viral. The one we used in our initial story was taken down a few hours after the game. We’ve since updated it, so you can look at it again there.

Burfict was at the front of several scraps during the confrontational game between AFC North rivals. He started a pregame scrum with Steelers linebacker Vince Williams after he violated an NFL rule regarding crossing over the 50-yard line during warm-ups.

Burfict picked up a personal foul penalty in the game after he launched Roosevelt Nix backward three seconds after the whistle blew the play dead.

looks like burfict launched at ben's knees to me
Of course he did... Excuse my French, but Burfict is a punk ass bitch. People like him make me want to wish injury upon a player. He took more than just that cheap shot, actually several.

Thank God Ben is the toughest SOB in the NFL.

I don't feel bad at all towards their fans, but I do towards Dalton. I think Dalton is a classy guy, but it stops there within that entire franchise.

There is no part in the game of football for such a lack of respect for fellow players and for the game itself. People who try to convince everyone that Burfict's play was not dirty have lost touch with reality. The evidence supports that. He has been fined by the NFL 4x to the tune of $77,000 over the course of his career (should see another fine this week) and also went undrafted because of character concerns. Most of his fines were because of "intent to cause harm/injury" on other players. IMO Burfict is not only bad for the game of football but he is simply not mentally and emotionally fit for society in general. It is only a matter of time before he ends someones career or even possibly his own.

Rant over...
