I think that your response points to something that is true for a lot of folks. Hockey is generally very exciting when your team is involved (that is the Caps for me who always break your heart). Except for diehards - watching the NHL - even playoff games - is not all that great especially compared to other major sports.

At least the Blackhawks made (& won) the Stanley Cup finals. A Ducks-Lighting final would have been a total disaster & those ratings would have been significantly lower.

Yep, I totally agree. If the Blackhawks were not in it, I probably wouldn't have watched.

huge market

Yeah, but I really don't care about that. As others have said in this thread (and I agree with), if your team is not in the finals then you most likely tune off.

Football on the other hand is completely different.

Hockey doesn't translate well via television. Football on the hand is like tailor made for tv.

I agree with you though. Playoff hockey is the shit.

Disagree totally, but maybe it's just me.

I know what you mean, but since at least generally the seats are so much closer in hockey, you get to see the plays opening up further up the ice and don't miss much of the person on person action. In football, the huge advantage to watching in person is seeing that WR down the field 40 yards wide open or not, but it's too hard to keep track of the up close, linemen battles and other interesting aspects. I just prefer hockey in person by a large margin, and football in person on a much, much smaller scale than TV, if that makes any sense.

That being said, it's impossible to see someone like Polamalu going from one side of the field to the other in a flash in person that you can actually see at the game, even if he doesn't make the play. That always astounded me to see the amount of ground some of these freaks can cover live that doesn't show up well on TV.

I think that it’s what you grow up with I love to watch both sports in person and on TV. Footballs king but hockey's growing fast! I do love 7 game series as it evens out the BS.

Sorry, didn't mean to say I didn't think hockey wasn't better in person. I do. Just meant that I think it is also great on TV.
