What about the steals that didn't make it? No one bats over .500 on this kind of thing

Well, there's Bruce Davis. If you want you can ask the peeps on the Niners board, but these are seriously the names I was pimping prior to and after these drafts.

I've had some others I liked who didn't make it like Trevor Guyton in the 6th or 7th round for the Vikings if memory serves & George Selvie for the Rams in the 7th (nether made it), but the aforementioned names were my favourites over the years.

Going back even further my Non-1st round favourites were:

'07: Alan Branch, David Harris, Sydney Rice (all 2nd) and Brian Robison 4th round.

Didn't follow all the later prospects in '06.

By the way, I was really high on Tyler Bray this offseason because I thought he was too talented to not spend a later pick on him, but apparently the guy has a 1 and a half cent head to go with that million dollar arm. He's raw as sushi, but I still think he would've been worth taking a chance on as a 6th or 7th round pick or UDFA. Favourite undrafted QB since I've been following the draft closely.

Henne didn't exactly light the world on fire either, but I still think he can be a good QB...

By the way, I try to pick a bust in the first round every year (which is pretty hard), and here are the names I've picked since 1998:

'98: Curtis Enis
'99: Akili smith
'00: Rashard Anderson
'01: Damoine Lewis
'02: Lito Sheppard
'03: Rex Grossman
'04: Chris Perry
'05: Braylon Edwards
'06: Vince Young
'07: Jamaal Anderson
'08: Matty - Romo - Ice
'09: Percy Harvin
'10: TIMMY! (Tebow)
'11: Cam Newton
'12: Michael Brockers
'13: Kenny Vaccaro

Brandon Jenkins, DE, FSU - will be a steal in the draft for the Redskins. 5th round pick who had 1st round talent but missed all of last year due to injury. Has done nothing but shown off his tremendous pass rushing ability and did so in preseason.

Is he playing DE for the Skins or OLB?

OLB, obviously given his size, but he will mostly be used as a pass rushing specialist as he makes the transition. He looked great coming off the line even standing up. Most people so far feel he has the quickest initial burst on the team over both Orakpo and Kerrigan.

That was just one example. Obviously, the later in the draft you go the less likely the guy's going to be great. But that doesn't mean it's outrageous to predict a 2nd or 3rd round pick to be a great player.

And a "steal" isn't necessarily a great player. If you get a good player in the 6th or 7th round, I'd say that' a steal. You're usually doing pretty well if those guys even make the team. On the flip side, the #1 pick overall can never be a "steal" even if he's the best player of all time because he wasn't "stolen" from anyone.

Some of my "steals" of the draft for the last few years have been:

'13: John Hankins DT 2nd round (along with Tank Carradine & Corey Lemonier - both 49ers)
'12: Josh Chapman DT 5th round
'11: Greg Little WR 2nd round & Marvin Austin DT 2nd round
'10: Jimmy Graham 3rd round, Everson Griffin DE 4th round & Greg Hardy 6th round (nailed that draft)
'09: Mike Wallace 3rd round and Jasper Brinkley 5th round
'08: Calais Campbell DE 2nd round, Chad Henne 3rd round (still like the guy) & Bruce Davis LB 3rd round (why I'm always wary of UCLA products now)

this is a good list but to NOT put Alfred Morris as the biggest steal in the 2012 Draft is a Travesty...He only went for 1600yards and was the 2nd leading rusher in the NFL !!!

My crystal ball was acting up before the '12 draft. I saw the name Morris in it, but I thought it was saying Morris Claiborne so I ignored it for my 2nd-round-and-later steal predictions.

The guy I really wanted was Josh Chapman - 5th round (missed all of 2012 with an injury though). Went to the Colts. That was a great draft IMO because they got the guy I wanted the 49ers to draft in the 2nd round (the guy I thought was the best TE in the draft): Dwaaaaaaaaaaayne!! Allen.

Figured he was playing OLB but wasn't sure. I like Jenkins hope he does well as a skin.

Mike Shanahan. That guy always seems to get RBs in late rounds to produce. Not saying Morris is not a steal, or a great player. But the SECOND he was drafted, I though about picking him up in upcoming Fantasy Leagues.

I did pick him up!!! in our league we get a point for every carry and a pt for every 10yards.....love the scosing in this league...shows a players true value...in leagues with TD scoring only...a RB that carries the rock like this doesnt get the true value of his worth....He was a HUGE point getter, and I totally used my 1 Franchise tag on him!!!!!

Hate to burst your Bears bubble......but an offensive lineman taken in the first......should be able to hold his own (especially if he is a BEAST as you proclaim!!).....Maybe not necessarily manhandle...but hold his own...He will be like the rest of the Bears Oline picks....not good.

Now the Steal of the Draft Bacarri Rambo taken in 6th round for the Skins...Has been running with the 1's since traing camp opened..will be starting on Monday nite against Philly, and will be an impact Safety....

Thru 2 preseason games he has been MANHANDLING his opponent. I wouldn't call him the steal of the draft. But he has been performing better than any O-line player taken in this draft. PFF gave him their best rating for an O-guard EVER. I don't think he will be NOT GOOD.
Not familiar w/ every guy chosen in the draft. But if Wilson (7th rd pick) makes the cut , consideration has to be given there. Mills (5th rd) also will be starting day 1 @ RT. I think he was more of a steal.
