I can't believe there are folks who say that frying a steak in a cast iron pan is not good??????

I said in like the 5th post on this thread that my aunt fries a good steak.

But the video in the OP was talking about what was best(in regards to frozen), while then doing the fry method(not the best). And in no way can I agree that a pan fried steak is anywhere near as good as a grilled steak. So in general, I would choose grilling every single time.

Other than that, I think that other guy trying to show off is funny.

If I want a filet or a rib-eye I'll usually head for a steakhouse.

I'm the complete opposite. I won't go to a steakhouse because I'd rather grill my own ribeye at home. I can get better quality meat, get more steak, and get it all cheaper. I'd rather order a good restaurant burger.

The exception is when I'm traveling.

I grill almost everyday. I just moved and didn't move my grill and it's killing me. Rain - I'm still grilling. Snow - I'm still grilling.

I don't really bother with any cuts other than filet and ribeye. And it's ribeye 99% of the time.

People that talk in absolutes are quite limited in thought and in life. It's all a matter of preference, and when done right, whether grilling or frying - both can be ridiculously good or complete shit.

One of my favorite steak meals actually involves a marinade. I use a peppercorn and garlic marinade (McCormacks?) and let a couple of pounds of sirloin tips soak in it for a day or so. I sear them on the grill and pull them off while they are very rare. take them inside, dice them up and drop them in a beef gravy or au jus along with a healthy dose of sliced portobello mushrooms. Let is simmer for a bit and serve over a bed of rice or noodles. Pretty damn easy meal and very tasty.

McCormicks has some most excellent marinades.

My greatest ambition is to impress talking meatballs and their wives.

Well, that and racking up comment counts, internet friends and likes.

How does your aunt feel about you having a hard time taking her seriously?

Not sure, but I'm betting she would be butthurt way less than you are about it.

I've never had a fried steak that compared to a grilled steak. Absolutely.

Aside from that, people get upset about other peoples opinions because they take it in absolutes and apparently every post on the internet requires a disclaimer to make others happy. Because omg, my opinion that grilled steak is way better than fried steak is so offensive to others, and I totally and completely care about how you cook your food! In no way are my posts just my opinion, only yours are!

they got those pans with the grooves in them for ~frying~ steaks at home......esp. if you get two feet of snow dumped on your back deck where [my] grill is covered for the winter.,.....*but I do prefer my steaks on the ~grill~*.

TWINS is right. I'll tell you this though, Marge, the pans with the grooves in them are not the best for frying steaks. Cast iron is what you need.

I moved and don't have a grill again yet. I tried this method and I thought it was a waste of $15. Didn't have near the flavor.

I didn't marinate though.

To each his own. I always marinate though. It probably has a lot to do with how seasoned your cast iron skillet is.
