Don't call in the army, Saint John. The morons in Flin Flon will never let you live it down.

Sadly, even if its undeliverable he still moves to the back of the welcome basket queue.

Thanks everyone. The "state of emergency" seems to be a bit overdramatic by the city's politicians, as a means of justifying a parking ban uptown so they can clean the streets. No individual storm was unlike anything we see each winter. It's just unusual to have 3 of them so close together without any melt in between. Last week was the 1st full snow day I had in the 4 winters I worked for my currently employer. Got to go home a whole half our early yesterday and would have been able to go in a whole hour late today but used a vacation day instead since I can't get my car out. Might have to bus it tomorrow. My teacher girlfriend is of course loving it. She claims that she's not because she has to "get through the curriculum" but I'm not buying it.

Well I guess a Hitler video was inevitable. Pretty funny but you probably have to live in the area to appreciate most of the humor.

Running out of places to put the snow in Saint John:

As snow dumps in Saint John continue to grow on the edge of the port, one city councillor is asking why the snow isn't simply dumped directly into the harbour.

Gerry Lowe uses Tin Can Beach as an example. It's one of the city's main snow dumps and is now full.

"This stuff will eventually run into the harbour no matter where it sits," Lowe said.

The councillor for Ward 3 asks why the city bothers to keep the snow on land at all.

"This is going to run straight into the harbour and the dirt and the garbage will either stay on the ground or some of it will run in with it," he said. "I mean if it's near a sewer in the city, it's gonna run into the sewer system and plug the sewer system, or run into the harbour."

Lowe wants his city to take a page from Halifax's book.

"I just don't understand it, if you can do it in Halifax, why can't you do it in Saint John?" he asked.

Problem is, the city of Halifax doesn't actually dump snow into its harbour. The port authority does on occasion, but the city does not.

Yeah, yeah, snow, be safe, etc.

Let's talk more about these gift baskets. Do I get a special one for having lived through the swamp?

At this point most of us in the North East are dealing with the "where to put the snow" question. We have been getting hit every 3 or 4 days it seems and the temps remain frigid as can be so no melting is going on at all.

Those of us who make $$$$ doing the snow removal game are now looking at much longer hours to accomplish the same task (30 residential driveways in the burbs for me) and I had to send a note with the last invoice explaining that snow piles will have to be moved by machine very soon if the weather pattern doesn't change pretty quickly.

Be safe and stay warm.
