Daisy Ridley: JJ Abrams called my acting ‘wooden’

lol

Strong, resourceful, and with more than a dash of Carrie Fisher, her character Rey – often accompanied by appealing rollerball droid BB-8 – seems to unite the best of the old and new Star Wars worlds. Whether she’s riding a speeder across a desert planet, standing on the Falcon, or being attacked by villain Kylo Ren, Ridley seems effortlessly at home in the Star Wars universe.

But things haven’t always been so easy.

In fact, the actress says, on her very first day of filming, she was almost reduced to tears by the film’s director JJ Abrams, after he criticised her for being “wooden”.

“I was petrified. I thought I was gonna have a panic attack on the first day,” she told Glamour, in an interview published in the magazine’s new January issue.

“Because JJ…he probably doesn’t remember telling me that my performance was wooden. This was the first day! And I honestly wanted to die. I thought I was gonna cry, I couldn’t breathe,” she added.

George Lucas On ‘Star Wars 7’: ‘The Force Awakens’ Strays From My Original Vision’

Interesting. Had no idea that George Lucas was basically "pushed out" of the way; at least, That's how he makes it sound.

Good. We got a nice long glimpse of his "original version" ideas with Ep 1-3.

He may have created the universe that so many people love, but Star Wars is bigger than George Lucas. He needed to have it slapped out of his hands so that real filmmakers could build on the lore he made instead of letting George and his Yes men stomp the franchise into the ground even more.

If anyone wants to slap anything I created out of my hands with a $4B slap, have at it.

Lucas is a depressed parent after his child has moved out. Understandable, but the SW universe has grown up and is growing on its own now. He needs to let go and let its run its own life.

Good, the prophecy of the chosen one and midichlorians are just a couple of things from the prequels that should be ignored entirely. I don't think the prequels are the worst films of all-time but they certainly aren't great, they are canon in name only and should be ignored for the most part from here on out.

So many TV spots have been released!

Which is good that we're getting so much new footage but I've had to stop myself from watching the latest ones coming out because I feel like so much content has been shown in the trailers and 10-12 TV spots released to the public.

I remember a few years ago when Marvel released a trailer or a TV spot that showed Hulk saving Iron Man free falling from the sky. That totally ruined what could have been an amazing scene. The moment Iron Man took the bomb and started flying towards the portal, everyone knew what was going to happen. Took away all the suspense. Instead of being on the edge of your seat wondering if Marvel was ballsy enough to kill off their top character for dramatic effect we all knew Hulk was going to catch him.

Have not, but none of the extra media is necessary to enjoy and understand the movies. I'm sure you might get an extra little nod to something or maybe be able to link something small together first, but no, none of the books are necessary reading.
Of all the new canon, I've heard this would be the one to consume. Didn't know if any other diehards thought it would be good/necessary to catch it first.

I almost feel like these tv spots and all the released footage is Just the tip of the ice berge and I fully expect a whole lot of twists and turns. I got to give it to Abrams; He has played his cards magnificently as far as marketing goes.

I agree. I think he's thrown enough smoke screens and rumors out there to keep most people guessing. If the "leaked" full story line ends up being accurate, I'll be surprised and a little pissed.

Agreed man. I actually stopped myself from reading the leak after the first few sentences. It was tough haha but I didn't want to risk it being the "actual plot." I mean right now, with all the released footage, we all have a fairly good summary of the overall picture of this film. Now it's all about the details of the film and its secrets! Can't wait!!!!! 18 more days bro!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I've watched all the TV spots and read a lot of rumors and theories, but I forced myself to stay away from the potentially legitimate script leak. Why would you want to spoil the whole thing for yourself?

FWIW, most of the trailers match up well with that leaked script.
