I'm thinking something along those lines too. OR that he is a Rebel/New Republic sympathizer and takes an opportunity to defect from the Imperial forces. Maybe?

My understanding was that they were only clones during the Clone Wars. After that, they were just soldiers.

Actually, there probably shouldn't be any clones still in service. Remember, they aged at an accelerated rate so 50 years (roughly the time between Ep. III and Ep. VII) would be closer to 100 for them. They should all be 100+ for Ep. VII These Stormtroopers should all be either a new generation of clones or others that were recruited or drafted. Possibly a mix?

Somehow, I thought that the Empire maintained a relationship with the cloners and had a regular feed of replacements. Post e.6, it would't take that much for remnant Empire-types or vacuum-sensing Sith to renew the flow.

Somehow, I thought that the Empire maintained a relationship with the cloners and had a regular feed of replacements. Post e.6, it would't take that much for remnant Empire-types or vacuum-sensing Sith to renew the flow.

And that's why I think it may be a mix. Remember, Han was once an Empire pilot. So they must have recruited/drafted after the Clone Wars to supplement the forces.

Oh, the rest of the Empire's military et al are whomevers, but I thought the Storm Troopers distinct. WhatdoIknow, I've only seen the six movies and read the very first pop-up-character paperback.

The clones were found in every MOS within the Empire sans the highest ranking positions.

While not confirmed, there have been leaks that say he joined the Empire but became disillusioned with them after seeing them perform atrocities first hand. He then becomes a deserter
