I thought they were planning on about 4 seasons?

They were, but Gilroy decided he didn't want to be tied to a project that long. So they took the story ideas they had and condensed them down into four 3 episode chapters. Each chapter will be released per week

Solid first 3 episode chapter. Nothing explosive, but a lot of subtle, character driven stuff. The settings and cinematography are gorgeous.

I just finished the second chapter yesterday.

Organa’s story this season BETTER be important. I hate recasts, but I especially hate them if they are just lazy. And this one just feels lazy so far.

Damn. Episode 8 is just as good, if not better, than One Way Out from Season 1.

I am just watching ep 7 right now. The season is slow going, but still pretty good. I think I may do a full rewatch when this season finishes.

I gotta finish ep 9 tomorrow to complete the chapter, but so far its been the best chapter by a long shot not that the other were bad. So far my opinion is I wish they amended their idea of doing chapters. I know they didn't want to do 5 seasons as originally planned, but if they could have met in the middle and did 3, that feels like it would have been better. The events of the first 6 episodes could have been spread out and expanded upon in Season 2. Then Season 3 could have been whatever episodes 7 thru 12 entail

And maybe they wouldn’t have had to recast Senator Organa.

Finished it.

Wow.

The first 6 episodes (or two chapters ever how you want to say it) are a little slow but still good. The final 6 episodes though? Fan fucking tastic.

The final 2 episodes were REALLY slow, but they had a lot of weaving to do to tie the show into Rogue One and the original trilogy. I would have liked for them to show more of Andor interaction with the guy he killed at the start of R1, but I guess, at the end of the day, that wasn’t really needed. We saw that he had become fully invested in the rebellion, and he learned that level of cut throat from dealing with Lucien.

I am disappointed with the lack of story given to Organa. Why do a super awkward recast if you weren’t going to use the character more than what they did. If he weren’t there, would the story have really been any different?

And they totally dropped the love-lorn-lesbian character after the first chapter. Very oddly handled.

Who was the old chic Andor was making eyes with at the very end as he was leaving Yavin? I got the sense we were supposed to know her, but I couldn't place her.

Why would you need more story with Organa? What he does is covered in plenty of other SW properties and Andor has always been more Mon focused. He's involved in the Rebellion so he's here in the series but he's not the bigger focus.

Vel isn't a major character, she's minor one and they showed what they needed to with her. Her relationship parallels Cassian's, showing you the sacrifices these people up and down the Rebellion are making. It's putting human faces and ties to it whereas Luthen treats a lot of his crew as expendable to the cause. Losing Cinta causes Vel to rethink her ties to Luthen and she quits to join the more organized Rebels. This affects Luthen later on with Cass and Bix as he's burning them out, not thinking of them as people, so he gives them the tip to kill the torture Doctor, showing them he still has some care for their needs, thoughts, and concerns.

The old woman is the Force healer from The Messenger episode. It's an acknowledgement that Cass is on his way to where he's suppose to be (the events of Rogue One), which is what the healer (implied) saw in her vision when she touched him.

My issue with Organa was not that that he was under-used, but that they recast him for very little need. Reportedly, Smits was not available for filming, so the went with Bratt is read. Why recast due to a scheduling conflict for a roll that could have easily been written out?

You're hung up too much on the recast. It was fine. Bratt is a good actor and looks reasonably close to Smits. So much so that the two have often been confused for each other since they became well known around the same time in the 90s

I hate recasts. I understand why they happen, and am OK with them when needed (Spartacus, for example). This one just seemed totally unneeded. If Organa’s roll in the story was larger, and Smits couldn’t fit in his schedule, then it would make sense. It would suck, but I would get it. This recast was just so unneeded.

And I have NEVER confused the two. They both look Latino. That’s it. Snits is a much larger man and he has very distinct eyes (Persian?). Bratt seems more like a southern European than a Latino.
