St. Thomas gets approval from NCAA to go Division I

And so it begins. With the Tommies making the leap, it won't be long before other successful D-III schools start questioning their commitment to the D-III policy. These schools would likely end up in D-II though since St. Thomas had extenuating circumstances.

Among the schools that could potentially decide to move to D-II are Mount Union and Wisconsin-Whitewater. The latter would pose a huge problem for the WIAC, which has never admitted a private school as a full member. If UWW does make the move to D-II, they might have to invite a private school to take their place. St. Norbert seems like the most likely candidate to replace UWW.

They have no business being D1 but you could easily say that for about 50-60 schools.

You mean schools can have financially viable athletic departments w/o being a P5 school or having to play money games against P5 schools? Amazing. How many T Boones or Phils does does it take?

The entire SEC will now schedule St Thomas.

Why should a team who has a zero percent chance of going to the championship game if they’re undefeated even be in that division?

1 in 11 chance to win the league with a chance at wildcard.
1-24 chance to win the playoff

FBS schools in practice do not schedule games against non-scholarship FCS teams because a win over them doesn't count towards bowl eligibility. Several FBS teams canceled games against Presbyterian after they announced a move to non-scholarship football.

St. Thomas has a few of them potentially.

I'm glad the NCAA decided to allow the Tommies to move up. This was a special situation. I don't see any other D-3 schools trying to do the same, unless they find themselves in a similar situation - which is pretty unlikely. But I could see the possibility of D-2 Minnesota St.-Mankato trying to move up, eventually, if the circumstances were just right.
