Bill Bergen for HoF!
Positives
Russell Wilson - Russell has been on a historic run the last 5 weeks, contributing on 20 offensive touchdowns, and having at least a 138.5 qb rating in each game. The team has responded to his improved play, winning all 5 games, and 7 of their last 8 overall.
CenturyLink - It appeared that the magic of home field had left the Seahawks earlier this year, but they've roared back with a vengeance the last few home games. As it stands, the Seahawks have only lost to the top 2 NFC seeds at home, and that was when they weren't playing exceptionally well. The Rams are always tough, but I expect the crowd to be involved full force today.
Playoffs - The Seahawks clinched a spot in the playoffs with last week's win, but the seeding is still up for grabs. A win today and a Vikings loss will sow up the 5th seed, and a trip to Washington.
Negatives
Injuries - Doug Baldwin, Jordan Hill, Anthony McCoy, Michael Bennett, Russell Okung and Kam Chancellor are all listed as at least questionable to play today. Even the ones who do make it on the field, how much will their injuries hamper their performance. Here's hoping most will play and be effective, as well as make it through the contest without injuries.
Front 7 - The Rams have played the Seahawks hard and their front seven on defense is a big reason why. In 7 games against Wilson, the Rams have recorded 31 sacks, including 6 or more 3 times. The offensive line is much improved, and will have to keep the Rams great pass rushers off Russell today.
Todd Gurley/Tavon Austin - These two players make up for nearly half of the Rams total offense this season, and have scored 19 of their team's 27 touchdowns. The Rams offense hasn't shown much the last few weeks that would lead one to believe that they can be potent enough to go against the Seahawks D, but the Seahawks will have to shut down both these guys to ensure the Rams don't do what they did earlier this season.
Match Ups
Lamarcus Joyner vs. Tyler Lockett - Lockett has been impressive this season in his development as an offensive weapon, and the Seahawks have been finding ways to get him involved in the offense. His 46 catches are second in the team, and he's got 18 catches and 3 touchdowns the last 3 weeks.
Trumaine Johnson/Janoris Jenkins vs. Doug Baldwin/Jermaine Kearse - Kearse (14/184 in last 2 games) and Baldwin (34/576/11 in last 6 games are the final two of the 3 Seahawk receivers who have been extremely hot in recent weeks. Johnson and Jenkins are very good defenders who have 9 INTs and 28 passes defended between the two of them.
Aaron Donald vs. Britt/Lewis/Sweezy - The improvement to the offensive line and the fact that the Seahawks haven't allowed many sacks of Russell the last 5 games can be contributed in large part tot these 3 linemen. They have kept the Chet clean and not allowed a lot of pressure to come from up the middle. They will have their hands full today with Aaron Dinald and Michael Brickers, though, and will have to find a way to keep Russell's pocket clean.
Overview
Once again, on paper, the Seahawks are the clear better team. But in 7 gsmes against this team since Russell arrived, the Seahawks are only 4-3, and they were clearly the better team on paper. Seattle needs to maintain their hot play, and it would be nice for another 400 yard 3 point day, as well as the d giving up less than 300 yards, but most important is a solid win.
