More likely they'll need 5 years. This first year was destined to be a huge failure for St. John's. Lavin left absolutely nothing to work with.
St John's only has 2 kids remaining from their 2012 class, 0 kids remaining from their 2013 class and 2 kids remaining from their 2014 class. They are going to be extremely young and inexperienced this year. The administration is going to have to give him at least 3 years to try and get this turned around.

You have to figure someone one (or a few) will red-shirt plus injuries. From the time you really get a full chance to recruit you've already coached one season, because you have to get in the door with some of these kids by the time they are juniors in HS (if not sooner in some cases). That means, coming in like Mullin did, even as early as he did, he lost about a year to a year and a half off recruiting. Add in the minimal returning players/production and you have a complete overhaul that is easily going to take 4-5 years to get back into a normal cycle.
I watched it at Cincinnati after Huggins was booted. Ugly. Not to sound homer-ish, but what Cronin has been able to do at Cincinnati after Huggin's/Zimpher fiasco tore that program apart is nothing short of amazing. And he did it at a time where the BE was THE BEST conference in the nation, and was putting historically high number of teams in the NCAA's for 2-3 years.
Yeah, he's off to a nice start there.Cronin butt buddy Buzz did wonders too. Hopefully Wojo proves he can coaching wise, already golden on the recruiting front.
