The Giants have a bit of a roster redundancy with Wilmer Flores and Jerar Encarnación that will need to play out. Both are pretty defensively limited, right-handed hitters. Production will determine who gets the bulk of the at-bats at DH, but there may not be a ton of playing time for the one who does not, especially with how Bob Melvin uses the bench. When you start to map out the position players, the Giants probably want to keep another versatile player but are limited by having these two on the roster at the moment.

If LaMonte Wade Jr. is able to play in the outfield, it could open up a few more at-bats at 1B/DH, but that might be asking a lot from him.

I thought Flores and Wade make a good platoon match - at least from the side that they bat. I haven't looked at their splits to see if that works.

Tom Murphy’s MRI showed a mild oblique strain, he’ll be out 7-10 days. Sam Huff is the third catcher on 40-man roster if it gets to that point, with Max Stassi and Logan Porter also in camp.

Wouldn't be surprised if Stassi makes it out of camp as the backup, with Huff dfa'd and Murphy on the IL. MLB teams generally don't seem to like have both catchers youngish so that is why I think Huff is gone (or at least not on the SF roster). Of course, Stassi's health is a major wild card as well. It is possible the Giants acquire a veteran backup at the end of camp too.

Jung Hoo Lee has never been much of a high-volume base stealer as a pro but that's one way for him to add value. He has the sprint speed to steal some bags and the Giants should want to challenge him to be more aggressive on the bases.
