IMO when you are that big at age 19 (assuming he is actually 19 lol) he will naturally become bigger his muscles, bones, maybe height will increase. I think somewhere near 30 he won't run as fast and will be a full time DH.
Agreed but if he is still playing at thirty Mariners won't be able to afford him anyways...

On yesterday's episode, Colby made a joke regarding Mariners internships. While we felt it was made clear his tongue-in-cheek comments were purely hypothetical and were not claiming anything as fact, the team has asked us to issue a correction below.
https://twitter.com/LO_Mariners

The Mariners have confirmed to us they do not have any unpaid positions within their organization. Our statements, while made in jest, were not based on factual information. We apologize for the confusion.

Sorry about bringing the Hawks into the thread, but I was thinking more about how I am doubting now that Dipoto didn't know the salary dump plan all along and that he was just full of shit prior to both years of it. Now we have John Schneider saying that Drew Lock signed with Giants because they told him he would have a chance to start. Drew Lock comes out today and says the Giants coach told him Jones was the starter. He said he went there because the coach was great at developing QB's. So is lying just the new way for GM's to excuse their failures? Pass the blame?
I have to laugh at Lock saying he went to Giants cause coach is great at developing QB's. Danny Dimes sucks. In reality, there is a good chance Lock starts due to injury or Danny Dimes playing like trash. Maybe Lock will get 54% of the snaps.

I am a firm believer that the Mariners under JD he would do everything in his power to keep his star players. I thought it was an awesome move to offer Julio that 12 year deal right after his rookie season and keep him a mariner. We will see how he will handle Logan Gilbert as he will enter his arbitration year after this season.

Realistically IMO there are only 5 to watch. Cole Young, Ryan Bliss, Blake Hunt, Harry Ford and Tyler Locklear. Ford is probably auditioning for other teams. Hunt is a big one because Zavala should have a short leash if he is a defense only catcher. Young, Bliss and Locklear are basically playing for if Urias/Rojas/France are available at the deadline.

I'm not sure zavala is a defense..only catcher..

With 4.years..only .
20 19... 12 at bats..I'm not.
Going with...that's a coffee.
Break..
2021.93 at bats..183.ave..
So even cal.had.. those..numbers...

2022..173.at.bats..hit.270..
Something was right..
In 2022.for zavala..

Then .in 2023..
155..till he got traded.to.
Arizona..

So..if.he..can..hit.i wont be. surprised..
Same if.He.. Dylan..moores..
On me .

I just looked at spring training standings for the first time. The m's have the most runs scored and runs allowed. was not expecting to see that, but haven't been following much at all.

No chance. They have Cal, Gilbert, Kirby and to some extent Woo and Miller due in a couple years. I would guess we keep one at best.

As far as Julio goes, I still didn't get the timing of it and the amount. Love Julio so not upset he signed long term, but his contract was 4 times that of the Braves rookie who was almost identical in numbers and age at the time of their contracts. The timing puzzled me only because we haven't had a great track record of having players improve in year two and beyond. They had 5 years before they had to commit. I would have waited after year two but again, not the worst thing since it worked out.

Ya they are making a big deal about the runs scored. Nothing matters until they do it in T-Mobile. Hell, Dylan Moore is hitting .320.

Yeah, I don't read into spring training at all. It means literally nothing, but it goes both ways. Shitty spring training, good spring training...statistically almost zero correlation to regular season success. I read an article that looked up ST results over the past 30 years that really kind of broke it down Barney-style for me.

But I wasn't expecting to see them be first in both RS and RA among all teams lol. That's weird af to me.

Ya they talked about that on the last televised game and it is a weird stat. The pitching part doesn't worry me because several of the starters are working on a new pitches this happens. But if this goes into regular season we will be like the Mariners of the 90's. 7-6 games will be a norm...lol.

Well, it's been an interesting spring for Tealed Troopers. After starting off ST games going 1-9, they have since won 10 out of 14. Many of our regulars have had surprisingly good springs: Julio, Cal, Mitch, Polanco, and Garver have all excellent spring stats. France's is decent although he has shown no power. Urias and Crawford have been good if not in the same class as the previously mentioned. And who has sucked? That would be Raley and Rojas. I have my doubts that Raley can hang on to that LF starting gig, but that is a tradition in Seattle, is it not? Left field, the black hole.

The pitching side has not been as cheerful. Castillo and Woo have been solid. Kirby and Gilbert have been rocked hard, but they are both probably just experimenting while building arm strength so no cause for concern.....yet. Casey Lawrence is getting a lot of work. Interdasting. This guy might slide into a starting role if a spot opens up. But I can see him making the team as a long relief specialist.

And lastly, Ryan Bliss is getting a lot of playing time. In fact, he has more plate appearances than anyone else on the team. He's hit well, although I can't speak for his defense, having not seen him in action. But, wouldn't it be just like Dipoto to find a cheap alternative at SS so he can dump JP's contract on some other team at, say, the deadline in July? I mean, forget that JP is the heart and soul of the team. Such trivialities have never concerned Dipoto in the past. And, after his year last year, JP's trade value has never been higher.

You can see Mariner ST stats here: https://www.mlb.com/stats/seattle-mariners/at-bats/spring-training

Another great old-time photo-

I really wish we had stadiums like that nowadays.

A. It’s historical

B. Architecture back then was obviously 10000% times better because we got stadiums that are useless 20 years later and the views get worse.

C. If you ever play MLB the show, the old stadiums are just so much cooler and each stadium is unique and a part of the community. None of the modern “stadium” districts feel like a part of the community. Everyone raves about the Braves new stadium but they kind of just built a commercial city around it. Instead of putting a stadium inside the city. I guess call me old timey but I think it is cool if someone can on the top of their building and it is the nose bleeds instead of the nose bleeds at TMobile Park.

Not internships, but the Mariners have thousands of contracted “employees” who have to have a second job because they only get paid through the season.

I am still not completely sold on Woo I am curious to see how he will fair starting in the rotation. I wouldn't be surprised if Emerson Hancock gets called to start at some point this season. Cal by the time his service time is up he will be 31 and I wouldn't invest a ton in a 30+ year old catcher especially if Harry Fords development is coming along well. We have a lot of time before the service time is up on the guys you listed some are 2028-2029. Between now and then there is a lot of Evalution to see and more than likely someone will get injured or not progress well.

Better than kikuchi..
Starting at #3 spot .
And that is were ..I might put..him in a rotation..
Woo...
But this rotation..is Jedi..
And Hollander.
And the scouting and coaches..
