Good move for WASH. Veteran experience there and Steckel had a bad contract IMO (3 years was a lot), but I think this brought on even more money for them. So someone gets demoted?

Well, just took on 3.4 million, along with 200K that you were over. So a 3.6mil player has to be demoted?

Looking at capgeek they were over this morning after the Wideman trade, and just took on another 3.4 mil.

a) with what money?
b) on what line? 3rd?

guess I'm not much of an Arnott fan for the past decade or so.
he was not really on my radar.

They take on ~ 20% of 3.4 million at the most. Salaries are day to day. Just like with Wideman they take on ~20% of 3.9 million. Therefore the actual add is a total of 1.46 million which keeps them under the cap.

I'm sooooo confused by the prorated thing. So the cap hit keeps them under the cap? I guess I put too much trust into capgeek then, because they still list them as over.

Yeah I was going to say, unless a team has a player on IR they dont consume the entire salary.

Capgeek is the best estimator but still can be off by 1mil or so. Basically salaries are paid daily so if you are under he cap, like the caps were to start the season, yuh can bank that daily under to pay out later. In addition, when you add a player, only the reaminder of his contrasct is part of a teams cap. That is why saving like 3 million at the beginning of the season, banking the daily under, and holding pat until the deadline gives you the ability to bring in someone worth like 15mill annually as you are only accountable for 3 mil of that and have the extra saved cap space to add more pieces as well. This is where cap gurus and odd callups, send Downs, like Dustin Jeffery come into play. As long as abplayer is in the.minors and has a two way deal, every day he is not on the NHL roster, hire daily rate does not count against the cap.

Thanks 46, I was following CapGeek a little too closely. But obviously on a day like today especially, they're swamped.

Steckel's deal is 1.1 for 2 more years. BTW, deal also included a 2nd rounder. Hmm...never mind, I didn't want him.

One of the best faceoff guys in the league. Big body, but not too physical. Hard worker. Fantastic locker room guy. Good penalty killer. Comes up big at big times. Not terribly offensive but good in the back check. His number is 1.1 per year for 2 more after this season. Not too bad.

We needed help on the faceoff see the last Tampa game.Sounds like he'll do well in our system. You guys should like Arnott as well big frame good in the corners and he still has a nasty shot.was one of our few bright spots early in the year.Great leadership and he wants another cup bad.
